Somerville brewery draught, 4/19/22. Mostly clear canteloupe-brass. Small, white ring of bubbles atop. Peppery phenols. That's about it, honestly. Thin, over attenuated with heavy, black pepper phenolics. Flavor is actually really nice but it's just so God damned dry. Still, can appreciate the yeast here. Just black pepper, papaya and maybe a hint of popcorn.

Somerville brewery draught, 4/19/22. Ebony. Small, tan ring of foam. Bourbon and chocolate with moderate alcohol, raisin and prune. Pretty nice despite the lactose. Coconut, big bourbon spice and alcohol with a soft, rather light texture. More bourbon/booze than malt depth, unfortunately. Lots of coconut lingering. Just nowhere near rich and balanced enough for what it's trying to do. Light, thin, sharp, alcoholic and pretty low on actual beer character.

Somerville brewery draught, 4/19/22. Dark copper, light haziness. Small, white head of no retention. Juicy fruits of citrus and passion. Maybe some watermelon in there, too. It's as if they only really try with some of their beers Big and malty. Whew. Where tf did all that malt come from??? It's like a caramel and alcohol graveyard. Maybe some pineapple, melon and such but way too sweet and barleywine-esque. Weird. Didn't get all that from the nose. Clean but hot. Too sugary.

Brewery draught, 4/19/22. Heavily hazy, bright, tangerine-peach. Small, white head steadily fades to a ring. Nose is rather faint, at least initially, offering light bubble gum and tangerine with some spicy pine resin as an afterthought. Soft, but also crackers on the end, with some dough and very light citrus juice. Light, minimalism seems to be the name of the game here. Soft and clean but seemingly over attenuated and under late hopped.

Somerville draught, 4/19/22. Moderately hazy, copper-maize. White head is thin, fading quickly to ring. Big citrus juice notes in the nose with house character adding a hint of bubble gum and a bit of plaster. No twang or booze. Soft and malty, very attenuated with light pine, juicy citrus and a touch of light scallion. It's got barely just enough malt depth to keep interest, despite very low bitterness. Clean, touches of alcohol at points. Good enough texturally but expecting a bit more flavor intensity. A bit light/thin for its size.

750mL 2020 vintage bottle drunk 3/5/22. Dark ebony with some mahogany highlights and some decent clarity or at least translucence. Thin, dark beige head slowly fades away. Big bourbon and alcohol notes with soy-like oxidation, vanilla, graham cracker, bourbon spice and dark chocolate prominent. Maybe a bit on the boozy side. Not as much comforting malt or softer notes in general, as I'd like. Highly attenuated in the mouth, quite dry with a malty enough texture, but no real richness or big depth of malt. Not asking for a chewy, viscous, syrupy mess, but this doesn't quite hold all of this barrel/liquor/alcohol intensity.

Draught at Everett location, 3/5/22. Dark mahogany with some cola highlights. Small, light beige head shows moderate retention. Light brown sugar-like malt notes with a very soft minerality and light roast. Pretty mild and even, but aromatic. Chocolate, cream, almost vanilla-like with good roasted acidity and a supple, malty texture with good attenuation. Definitely on the maltier side, maybe a touch more than I'd personally prefer, and I'd like a little more mineral richness, but very well-balanced and flawless.

Draught at Everett location, 3/5/22. Dark ebony, maybe a touch of clarity? Tan head slowly fades to nothing. Nose is far less adjunct heavy than expected, showing more coffee, dark chocolate and light vanilla, with a good deal of caramel and chocolate-like malt notes. I do get some coconut, but it's not pervasive or dominant. Doesn't seem intensely fudgey-milky so the lactose seems to be in check, as well. Hint of alcohol warmth. In the mouth it's surprisingly lighter in body. This is definitely not a viscous, chewy, syrupy, sweet rendition. Well-attenuated, bordering dry, with soy, coconut, vanilla, fudge and tons of baker's chocolat lingering. Warms up nicely, gaining some much needed sweetness. Very nice restraint on the lactose and coconut; two ingredients that I feel always need a lot of restraint.

Draught at Everett location, 3/5/22. Lightly hazy/cloudy, bright magenta with deeper violet hues. Pinkish head is small, fades away quickly. Nose is a good deal of biscuity, wheaty malt/wheat character with gentle acidity and a deep, almost earthy and lightly medicinal cherry aroma. Some spice, lots of pit/flesh with a touch of acidity and earthiness from the pomegranate. If not quite as explosively aromatic and intensely fruity as some in the series, it makes up for it in complexity. Soft and soothing with an almost chewy palate full of well-attenuated fruit sugars and lightly medicinal/spicy cherry. Earth, lactic acid, vanilla and lingering cherry notes. Lovely stuff, as usual for this series.
