Description
Established as the Matthews Brewing Co in 2005 by Stuart Matthews and Sue Appleby in a farm workshop estate in the village of Timsbury, a few miles outside Bath. Using the best ingredients such as Maris Otter malt , this small 5 barrel brewery soon became known for its distinctive, uncompromising ales.

Taken over by Dawkins Taverns and name changed in January 2010. The Brewery moved from Timsbury near Bath to Bristol in 2016.

Closed May 1st 2023 due to cost of living crisis.

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, floral and mildly wooden with some slight nutty notes. Flavour is sweet malts, mild yeastyness, fruits and raisins. Also has some mild tones of salted liquorice.

Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol 25/05/2012. Amber coloured with a slight, off-white head. Sweetish, caramel and hedgerow fruit aroma. Flavour was similar, with more fruit, some solid malts and a lengthy, bitter finish. Fine.

Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol 25/05/2012. Golden with a slight white head. Aroma of grapefruit and some creamy malts. Easy drinking, with some sweetness upfront, more fruit and dry finish. Good.

Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol 25/05/2012. Deep gold with a trace of white head. Aroma of tropical fruits and tangerines, with a hint of caramel. Flavour had plenty more frujit, some biscuity malts and a hoppy, dry finish. Good.

Cask conditioned at Reading BF 2012. Black beer lasting beige head. Lots and lots of choc. Some lactic but mostly just choc touch grainy. Just choccy as hell. Lovely choc.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 23/04/2012. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Aroma of citrus fruit with some sweet malts and floral hops. Flavour had tangerines apricots and a hint of caramel, before a decent dry finish. Enjoyable.

Pig’s Ear. Clear amber beer, tiny white head. Light dry palate. Slightly smoky malt is a backdrop for ok tangy hops. Dry finish. Meh!

Cask (gravity) @ 28th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2011, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England.Clear medium to light amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, sweet tobacco, hay, light hoppy, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, burnt plastic notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20111209]

Cask. A golden beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of spices, marmelade, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, fruits, and marmelade, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Cask, handpump at The Green Man, Bristol, 28.01.12 Pours hazy amber with a white rim. There is a little bit of butteryness on the nose and less so in the mouth. This isn’t that refreshing or crisp as the description suggests, being more bland and unexciting in my opinion. A6 A3 T5 P3 Ov11 2.8
