Description
Multiple Award Winning Family-run Brewery based in Torbay, Devon!

Bays Brewery began in March 2007 when Will Freeland, Mark Salmon and Peter Salmon joined forces and signed a lease on an old 5000 square foot steel fabrication unit in Paignton. The transformation began towards the end of March and by the middle of June, after some considerable construction and installation works, it was running its first brew through the 20 barrel brew plant.

With Will Freeland’s experience as the head brewer at Skinners Brewery in Truro for ten years, Bays Brewery was quickly able to establish an efficient and consistent brewing regime.

Handpull cask at the Crown Hotel, Lime St, Liverpool. Brownish Amber, clear once it settles, witha fairly tight beige head. Spicy and grainy aroma, some caramel and spiced citrus peel. Taste pretty good with a slightly spicy sourish sweetness, with kumquat peel and sweet cooking spices in the finish. Medium texture, carbonation soft to nil. A decent cask beer.

Bottle. A gift from Totnes. The person not the place. Clear gold. Semi decent white foam. Post Covid picking up sweet biscuit and light herbal lemongrass like hop. Taste is pretty bitter with a little dryness. Nicely clean and bright overall. Decent bitter finish. It’s fine by me. Sank it.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours a hazy golden brown with minimal off-white head. There’s malts and autumn fruits in the aroma. In the mouth there is constant fluctuation between the sweetness of malts and slight bitterness of floral hops. There’s some caramel too and hints of bitter oranges and apricots. Bitterness wins out in the finish. Not wildly exciting but eminently reasonable.
