[Bottle from Pallant of Arundel] Pours deep brown-black with a moderate beige head. Slight fizz. Smells of coffee and treacle. Treacle, figs, raisins and sweet black coffee in the first taste, balanced against a little bit of bitter chocolate. Thereโs a hint of very English dusty farmyard hops in there too. Vanilla ice cream and a slight oaky sourness come through in the finish. May be a bit sweet and sticky for some, but for me there was just enough bitterness and carbonation to cut through it. A lovely beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol 18/02/10. Near black with a hint of red and decent, off-white head. Sweetish aroma of milk chocolate, coffee and dark forest fruits. Flavour had a sweet edge, with caramel, fruit & nut chocolate and a hint of roastiness in the finish. Very drinkable.

50cl bottle from Tesco Camberley. Attractive gold colour with a loose white head that faded rapidly; sweet malty aroma; sweet malty flavour, slightly fizzy in the mouth; gentle bitter finish. Actually pretty good for a pasteurised beer, even if itโs not very adventurous.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford. Dark ruby in colour with a thin tan head; sweet and rich chocolate malt aroma; the body is thiiner than I expected; the flavour is dry, milky chocolate at first, then sweeter; leading to a gently bitter finish, leaving an aftertaste of chocolate and coffee grounds.
