Description
Golden City Brewery was founded in 1993 by two geologists, Charlie & Janine Sturdavant. They filled the old machine shop behind their historic Golden home with used dairy tanks and Charlie began brewing German-style ales. The tasting room was originally located in the sunroom of their house and provided Red Ale and Pale Ale to the local community in half-gallon growlers and kegs. Since that time, the operation has expanded at the same location (still their home). The carriage house has become the tasting room, the backyard is the beer garden. The brewery is still in the machine shop, but a second level was added inside. All the old “frankenbrew” equipment has been replaced with real beer fermenters and a slightly used gas-fired kettle. The brewery produces those now legendary Red & Pale Ales, in addition to a few other brews.

Thanks for the can, Erin.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing speckling and then sliding into the beer.
The smell had a decent amount of light sweet citrus to brighten into a slight bittersweet piney - ness.
The taste was bittersweet citrus to include the piney hops and eventually allows a decent light caramel malt to it.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still carried a decent subtle smoothness to it.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good AIPA that I could have again.

Gravity dispense at GBBF ’14, day 2, 13/08/14. Very lightly hazed golden amber with moderate light beige spotting and edgework. Nose is caramel forward, vanilla, raw hops, not great. Taste comprises sweet licks, vanilla fudge, caramel, bready, dark fruit rinds. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet and sticky in the finish. Meh - worst beer of GBBF ’14 ? Definately worst from the US bar!

Sampled @ GBBF day 2. Hazy dark orange color, small white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, sweet fruits, overripe fruits, lightly sugar, slightly raisins even. Seems more like a barley wine to me. Medium body, soft carbonation.
