Description
Golden City Brewery was founded in 1993 by two geologists, Charlie & Janine Sturdavant. They filled the old machine shop behind their historic Golden home with used dairy tanks and Charlie began brewing German-style ales. The tasting room was originally located in the sunroom of their house and provided Red Ale and Pale Ale to the local community in half-gallon growlers and kegs. Since that time, the operation has expanded at the same location (still their home). The carriage house has become the tasting room, the backyard is the beer garden. The brewery is still in the machine shop, but a second level was added inside. All the old “frankenbrew” equipment has been replaced with real beer fermenters and a slightly used gas-fired kettle. The brewery produces those now legendary Red & Pale Ales, in addition to a few other brews.

Cask at GBBF 2014 - London. Day 2. Pours clear amber-gold with a few bubbles for a head. Present diacetyl, with notes of toffee, ripe orange, big sugary dough, brown sugar, bread, light leafy bitterness. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Chewy. Sticky sweet on the finish with more dough and some toffee. Meh.

On tap at the brewery, GABF week 2014. I did not know exactly what kind of beer this was while drinking it, but i did not think altbier. Mild malt aroma and flavor. Low carbonation, not too heavy on the palate making it easy to drink, but I thought more of a red ale than an alt.

On tap at the brewery, GABF week 2014. I think this the "Bourbon Barrel Rye IPA" so I will put my rating here. Bourbon aroma and flavor. Bitter hops, and some malt. Unfortunately the bourbon overpowers everything else

On tap at the brewery, GABF week 2014. Copper color. mild hop aroma nd flavor. Dry, bitter hops and a solid malt base. Well balanced with the malt; I thought it was more of an American Pale Ale.

On tap at the brewery, GABF week 2014. Big aroma of pine trees and hop resin. Sweet hop flavor but surprisingly not very bitter at all. Low carbonation; brown color.
