Description
Monty’s Brewery is based just a short distance from the ancient castle town of Montgomery, on the Powys - Shropshire border. Monty’s Brewery was founded in 2008 by husband and wife team Russ and Pam Honeyman since then they have established the brewery as one of the leading breweries in Wales. Producing beers of many styles, with a focus on gluten free and low alcohol beers the brewery prides itself on its range having won many awards.
In this new world of sustainability and with a focus on the environment Monty’s is driving towards a more sustainable process. In the brewery we heat the water for each brew from the previous brew through plate heat exchangers, all helping to keep our carbon footprint down as much as we can. We don’t use any plastic in our packaging, and our waste grain, feeds local cattle, our first and last beer run-ins which would be a waste product are fed to a herd of Welsh Wagyu.

0.5l bottle. This is a light cloudy deep dark brown one with a really disappointing almost translucent bubbly head that's quickly gone. It smells of chocolate this! Really just lots and lots of chocolate. Some cold coffee and something flower-like also, but I have to say, it smells like chocolate. The one you find in confects. The mouthfeel is thin oily to watery and the carbonation level is as flat as Denmark. Soft roasted flavors, it has lots of cold coffee also. Sweet biscuits and dark cardboard, in a strange good way. It's actually not that bad tasting this, and if it has some carbonation I would even consider calling it good. A nice midnight cap at 9 o clock in the evening. 04.04.2013

0.5l bottle. This is a cloudy deep dark orange one, almost bronze actually and it has a nice bug almost fluffy off-white top. Quite fruity and almost a bit sweet on the aroma. I get traces of both potatoes, fruits, pencil and caramel. A decent non extreme aroma. At first it feels dry on the tongue dry actually, before the sweetness lurks it's way on to the palate in the aftertaste. Average on the carbonation and thin oily on the mouthfeel. More earthy, almost soil like tones in the flavor, it's floral, something a bit dark over it and sweet malty biscuits. Really lightdrinkable and I'm noticing that I'm enjoying it more and more the further I get down the bottle. This is more my kind of bitter. A bit different from all the rest if them. 05.04.2013

0.5l bottle. This is a light cloudy dark golden/orange one absolutely packed with tons a of tiny particles floating around and a really good looking big fluffy white head. It smells of something almost light yeasty with a good amount of dry grassy hops. Also some sweet traces of candy, but that's all the way in the background. It has a somewhat thin almost watery mouthfeel and the carbonation is right below average. Old red strawberries from the freezer, something kinda earthy. It has a little bit of both fruitiness and bitterness this. The flavors are not bad either. Ends soft dry on the tongue. A fair enough beer, but it grows a bit old when you are about half the way into the bottle. 05.04.2013

50cl bottle from Meny Løren. Pours slightly hazy golden with a nice, white head. Lightly hoppy and fruity aroma with malt and hints of citrus, flowers, herbs and yeast. Medium to light body with a fairly sof carbonation. Moderate sweet and fruity with a lightly dry and pleasantly bitter finish. Well balanced. Nice and sessionable.

A golden coloured honey ale served from cask at The New Oxford Winter Ales Festival, half pint shared with Finn. Bubbly white surface leaving spotty lacing behind. Leafy hops to the nose, semi-sweet. Rounded taste profile of leafy hops and basement followed by honey sweetness and bittersweet endnotes. Easy to drink. Quite nice (Greater Manchester, 27.01.2013).
