Cask at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured a clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is malt, light woody hops. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a smooth, malt, light lychee, light herbal, light floral hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford (not listed in RateBeer). Pours golden yellow with minimal white head, but good lacing. Malts and caramel in the nose, plus hints of floral hops. In the mouth it starts off with a creamy texture and sweet malt flavours, with traces of tropical fruits. Later on this becomes somewhat bitter with sharp citrus to the fore. Finish is bitter but with some caramel sweetness. A drinkable session beer.

Cask at Exeter Arms, Derby. Pours a ruby red (light for a porter) with minimal off-white head. The usual suspects of roasted malts and dark fruits in the aroma. Fruit to the fore at the start in the mouth. Raspberries and plums on a base of caramel. Later on liquorice and aniseed come through. Finish is dry and fruity. Quite nice.

Can shared by Grumbo: Poured a golden with some two finger white head. Aroma is juicy, fruity, vanilla. Taste is bit bitter, citrus, grapefruit, berry, very drying finish.

4/9/2021. Can shared at Suffolk’s RateBeerian gathering. Bought direct from the brewery. Pours slightly hazy golden with a large foamy white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, stone fruits, vanilla, funky herbal edge. Moderate sweetness and bitterness with some sour developing. Moderate body, slight creamy texture, foamy carbonation.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby – as 4.1%. Pours a reddish brown with a small cream head which soon becomes scummy, but has good lacing. Has a sharp aroma with hints of crusty bread rolls. In the mouth it is fruity with berries, but also has a bitter sharpness that is almost sour. Texture is somewhat watery. Finish is very bitter indeed. A good old style bitter.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours a reddish brown with a small off-white head. Nose is mainly malts. It’s a bit watery in the mouth, but bread rolls and caramel can be detected, with traces of dark fruits. Bitterness comes through later, and the finish has cherries as well. Reasonable if slightly unusual.

Sample thanks to Grumbo: Poured a deep brown center with reddish edges, head was finger tan that dissipated fast. Aroma is dark chocolate malts, rich, fruits. Taste is light bitterness, roasted malts, ashy, smoke.

Cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Clear light gold with a loose off-white head. The aroma is surpringly light. I get a touch of ginger but there's also hay and buttered toast. Taste has a strong note of lemongrass and ginger later in the sip, but it feels like it's an attempt to disguise a pretty boring base beer. It's sweet and slightly buttery with suggestions of citrus in the finish. Carbonation is soft to nil. Struggling with this one.
