Our name comes from the other major landmark of the town, the Torrs - a park set in the 70-foot-deep gorge cut by the Rivers Goyt & Sett, that the town stands above and around, where many of the town's mills used to stand.

Bottle. High Peak Beer and Wine. Hazed gold. Has that Torrside homebrew look about it. Decent thin sticky white foam though. Nose has light smoke (contains oak smoked wheat). Overripe oranges. Herbal notes along the lines of new sage leaves. Quite earthy overall. But fruity too. Taste semi sweet with a good dose of herbal bitterness. Good body for the 4% and drinks easy and tasty. Nicely rounded bitter finish. Nice one.

Cask at Petersgate Tap, Stockport. Pours almost black with minimal beige head and good lacing. There’s a powerful aroma of ginger plus roasted malts and a hint of liquorice. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with roasted malts and ginger prominent again. Hints of biscuits, chocolate and blackcurrant come later leading to a little bitterness in the finish. This is rather nice !

Old rating - A 330ml bottle from Suds & Soda in Derby. Aromas & tastes of fruits, toffee, pine. The strong ABV is very present & not doing any favours. Just about passable.

Bottle bought by my father at Beer District, Buxton. Clear - heading towards opaque - amber. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Light-medium bitter. Resin and herbs. A sour citrusy streak. Big wave of brown bread doughy malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Bouyed by soft and lazily fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Slips down but in an unimpressive fashion.

Bottle. High Peak Beer and Wine. As with other Torrside pales this pours with a muddiness about the colour. Kind of thing that makes you wonder if it’s a bit oxidised (see pic). Which it isn’t. But it looks it. Anyhoo. Lovely swede if nothing else. Nose has biscuity malts. Rind and pith of sweet ripe orange. Nice twang of lime in there. Bit of a fusty sweet white grape thing too. Taste has a touch of sweetness up first but mostly it’s bitter and lightly tangy (actually maybe it is a bit wonky?). Good depth of flavour overall. Plenty of bitterness to finish. Definitely not run of the mill.
