Description
Burdock brewery set up shop in what used to be an old Portuguese chicken restaurant, and they transformed the space into an artist-driven bar/restaurant/music hall/microbrewery run by a group of musicians and music lovers. They offer a rotating list of clean pale ales, complex saisons, crisp pilsners, zippy sours, and beer-wine hybrids that are all brewed in house.

Cloudy and sort of a pinkish colour. Not much head. The aroma has light fruitiness with a touch of acidity. On the palate, soft, with a touch of sugar, and a hint of fruit. Good balance. I like the sweetness. Not much barrel or wildness, but the character of the beer is actually quite good. Quite drinkable.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out oak barrels upfront, followed by saison yeast and some pithy berries. Flavour is quite complex, with loads of oak barrels, rustic saison yeast, and a touch of berries. Very complex, with a dry, woody and oaky finish. Excellent.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out a nice mix of peach and brett funk. Flavour is along the same lines, with tart peaches and brett funk in great balance. Fruity, funky and dry. Complex and well-constructed. Very good.

Cloudy and very pale. Thin head. The aroma has some farmy elements. On the palate, a bit yeasty, with light brett notes, and a mellow fruitiness that lends nuance to the beer. A pleasing, easy-drinking wild peach ale.

375mL bottle, gushes upon opening, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is quite woody, with cognac barrels, and light earthy yeast. Flavour is odd, with black forest cake, dark cherries, light coffee and rustic farmhouse yeast. Carbonation is intense, though it is fitting for what it is. Hard to imagine this is exactly what they envisioned here, but it ends up working out.

Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma is fruity, definitely with cherry, barrel, nice cognac notes. Has a light body, fizzy. The dark fruit character takes on a woody, vinous character, touch of acidity. Unusual beer, the mix of cherry and cognac is nice, but the malts are a bit lighter than they need to be - some nice date-like sugars would really pull this across the palate.
