Description
Burdock brewery set up shop in what used to be an old Portuguese chicken restaurant, and they transformed the space into an artist-driven bar/restaurant/music hall/microbrewery run by a group of musicians and music lovers. They offer a rotating list of clean pale ales, complex saisons, crisp pilsners, zippy sours, and beer-wine hybrids that are all brewed in house.

750mL bottle, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out rustic saison yeast and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is earthy and rather dirty on the yeast character, with a dry biscuity malt base. Pretty subdued, though it's quite yeasty and dirty. Decent, but unimpressive.

Touch of haze, quite pale. On the nose, it’s not clean. Smells like feet (pedio), along with some pepper. It’s a touch sweet up front with a nice pale malt sweetness, with a touch of dry herbaceous character in the finish. Pepper throughout. Not that great, really, as the yeast character is a bit of a miss.

Cloudy, not much head. Fairly pale. Touch of brett on the yeasty, slightly dusty aroma. On the palate, it’s dryish, dusty, has a nice earthy continental hop character, and again just a slight touch of brett. Good, balanced saison.

500mL bottle, explodes a little upon opening, pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is heavily funky, with loads of barnyard funk, along with some regular saison yeast, a touch of fruitiness and a hint of black pepper. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of lovely, effervescent barnyard funk, farmhouse yeast, some fruitiness and a little pepper. Nice and fruity, with a wonderful funky character. Excellent.
