An amber beer with a slight haze and a light brown head. The aroma is primarily of caramel, but also with ligth notes of hops and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of caramel and alcohol. The alcohol burn in the mouth - first on the tongue, and then in the throat. A nice Winter Warmer ;-)

Draught Kolsch glass at Horshoe Pub with OldGrowth on 3/4/06. I didnt even ask why it came in a Kolsch glass.
Deep crimson-auburn with strong molasses brown overtones, clear, with a wispy off-white head atop that flits about at cover, with no lacing. The nose is sour, munich-like malts, almost astringent, with hop bitterness, very floral and with sticky pine resin, seemingly quite raw. Some vanilla notes further complicate things, followed by a dirty/soily yeastiness and some nutty dryness. The flavor is a swirling mess of stinging alcohol warmth, bitter, astringent, resinous hops and dry caramunich maltiness. Aggressive, unfocused, brash and ultimately just too acidic and punchy. Texture is fairly thin, rather papery-smooth, with moderate carbonation. More dry soily/dirty flavors on the finish. I see the woodiness that everyone notes, but it just adds to the dryness and interrupts the mild fruitiness (oranges, cherries, apples).

BOttle Pours a clear sparkling light yellow orange. Cramy and lasting white head and sturdy lacing. Surprisingly interesting aroma. Light malts, bread and a nice hop character. Flavor is similar with a clean feel that finishes quick. Not bad.

I have to admit I spent some time trying to figure out what the word was behind the black bar. Dark copper color with a thick light orange/beige head. Thin lacing. Aroma of strong malt and subtle fruit. Medium-bodied and balanced nicely between sweet malt and citrus fruit. Light touch of pine as well. The finish is mildly bitter and lasting. Above average.

Thanks to Darkelf for this one. Sirius reminds me of HOTD Ruth. It has some strange spices and herbs in the aroma and flavor on top of a grass-corn-malt body. Cloudy orange, and lots of small pieces of sediment. Earthy. This would be good in the warm weather. An enjoyable change of pace.

Bottle. Dark amber colour with a tan head. Malty aroma with some fruitiness. Malty flavor with hints of caramel and hops. Sweet and warming alcohol finish.

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Nice head leaves lacing. Grass, floral and spruce aromas. Very strange -- almost slick with little flavor and then a big bitter finish.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours a reddish brown mahogany with a beige coloured head. Roasted, malty aroma. Accents of roasted malt and caramel. Dry with some lightly port-like notes. Dry finish. Lagunitas rarely offers bad beers, but even more rarely they offer something outstanding. 270106

Dark brown, almost black color with a medium thick and foamy beige head. Thin wisps of lacing. Coffee is in the aroma naturally, along with some sweet malt. Medium-bodied with a coffee flavor that is actually pretty subtle. Sweet malt, caramel and hops flavors are evident. The finish is hoppy with a little cappucino kick. If this beer were richer with a more pronounced coffee flavor I would have enjoyed it more.
