Description
We are Oedipus Brewing. Founded by four friends in Amsterdam, we’re always ready to go where our taste buds take us. Oedipus is about fun, energy and doing things differently. We create fantastical beers to reveal to the world that beer is a magical beverage: tasty, exciting and for everyone. Welcome to our universe πŸ––πŸ½

Since mid 2019 has Heineken a minority interest in the brewery. On June 21, 2023, it was announced that Heineken had acquired all shares of the brewery and thus became full owner of the brewery. The takeover coincides with the move of Oedipus.

The brewery and taproom at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85 were closed on April 14, 2024. The brewery and taproom were moved to Schaafstraat 19, 300 meters further, where the Oedipus Craft Space will open in the early summer of 2024.

33 cl. can @ home, gift from Noah. Really pale yellow with a very light haze and a white head. Citrus aroma. Fresh sour taste with a low bitter dry finish. Very thin body but refreshing and surprisingly tasty.

I find it to be muddled and lacking drinkability. Feels very homebrew-like. Bierkonig ams

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 13 Aug 2023) Pale golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, sourish nose with unripe tropical fruit, citrus, funky yeast and oak wood. Fruity, tart taste with notes of grapefruit, green grapes, funk, oak wood and a dry and tart finish with low bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tart, with a funky and woody touch. Very nice.

0.33 l can from 'Bierothek' (online), canned in June 2023. Hazy, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, quite fruity-floral, gently yeasty-spicy aroma of pineapple, gooseberry, white grapes, banana and some clove. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite fruity-floral and gently yeasty-spicy taste of banana, clove, gooseberry, pineapple and white grapes, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly dry finish. Almost medium-bodied, smooth but gently effervescent, average carbonation. Feels rather Bavarian than Belgian, still a nice brew.

Nearly clear pale yellow with a semi-persistent head. The nose seems to be a mixture of noble hops (grassy, earthy) and wit (banana, coriander). The wir character is pronounced in the mouth. Very banana. It doesn't have much body to carry over unfortunately. Remaining taste of banana and very fine bitterness. Bit too watery. Could do with more malt body.

Extremely pale white and hazy with a faint yellow tint. Quickly disappearing head. Pine, funky, lemon on the nose. Like a hard seltzer on the taste. Faint wafts of perfumed notes in the mouth. A bit of body initially but very quickly replaced with wateriness. Lingering floral notes and a faint bitterness. Alright and slightly interesting but not more.

Keg at If It Ain't Dutch, It Ain't Much, Bermondsey 27/10/23. Clear golden yellow with a white cap that thins to the edge. Nose is grape must, tarte white grape skins, funk, vinous, hay bale. Taste comprises funk, barnyard, damp straw, gooseberries, grape must, herb, wine barrel notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light puckering edge. Decent complex affair.

0.375 l bottle from 'Hello Bier', bottled in December 2021. Clear, golden yellow with a thin, fluffy, quickly collapsing, white head. Sweetish, slightly sourish, rather vinous-fruity and a bit funky aroma of mango, passion fruit, gooseberry and white wine. A little sweetish, fairly dry, moderately sour, rather vinous-fruity and slightly funky taste of white wine, gooseberry, mango, passion fruit, quite some white wine, hay and some brett funk, followed by a medium long, fairly dry finish. Medium body, minimally astringent, spritzy and fairly effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Lovely wild ale, bonedry and complex, fairly refreshing as well.
