Description
We are Oedipus Brewing. Founded by four friends in Amsterdam, we’re always ready to go where our taste buds take us. Oedipus is about fun, energy and doing things differently. We create fantastical beers to reveal to the world that beer is a magical beverage: tasty, exciting and for everyone. Welcome to our universe 🖖🏽
Since mid 2019 has Heineken a minority interest in the brewery. On June 21, 2023, it was announced that Heineken had acquired all shares of the brewery and thus became full owner of the brewery. The takeover coincides with the move of Oedipus.
The brewery and taproom at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85 were closed on April 14, 2024. The brewery and taproom were moved to Schaafstraat 19, 300 meters further, where the Oedipus Craft Space will open in the early summer of 2024.

Draft at Beer Temple. Pours dark brown with a fast disappearing beige head. Aroma of tart cherries, wood, licorice and caramel. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate acidic. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Golden with lots of yeast flakes floating around even though I poured carefully. Lots of spices, tropical fruits with Thai curry maybe. Light yeast and malts, with a strong sweetness. Medium bodied. Quite strange stuff, like a fantasy tropical desert. :)

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Pale yellow/straw color, cloudy. White head, quickly receding. Aroma’s: clearly citrus (-peel), resin, some grain. Retronasal I get sourness, citrus, some salt. Flavor is moderate sour with a touch of salt (but clearly noticeable). Light bodied. Decent carbonation. Finish is short, grainish. Very refreshing, but the salt remains a weird feature to me.

Cask @ In De Wildeman, taster size. Cloudy amber color with no head. Aroma’s: sour, resin, light fruit, some yoghurt, even a bit of wood? Flavor is sour with just a hint of malty sweetness. Light bodied, low carbonation. Finishes sour, yoghurty, with a bit of grain.

Sampled during Carnivale Brettanomyces Festival 2014. Clear red-brown color, medium sized beige head. I can’t describe the aroma and taste of this beer properly. It has some malts and some bitter, but what else is in there? Perhaps my taste buds had died after trying too many sour beers.

Brownish color, small beige head. Moderately sour, a hint of sour grapepeel. Always weird to have a sour dark beer. For some reason it just doesn’t match in my opinion. Decent enough beer overall but just not my thing I guess.

Tap @ Bierkoning. Slightly unclear yellow color, medium sized white head. Nice brett-aroma that reminds me a bit of orval. Taste is brett, some fruitiness, a bit dry, slightly some fruitpeel. Decent body and carbonation.

Different beer. Body is indeed dark, with a slight taste of smoke, the cacao is more present. Has some mild hopping and some less mild brett.

Body of smooth wheat, with a taste of brett, some mild hops and indeed some rhubarb, which turns out to be quite nice.

Another strange brett beer from Oedipus. Quite malty and ryish, with some fruit and of course lots of brett.
