Pours clear straw into a shaker. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Mild malt aromas. Soft with sweet agave and marshmallow upfront turning to bitter pumpernickel, leaves and earth in the medium length finish.

Pours a slightly hazy dark amber, some lacing. Not much aroma, a bit of lemongrass and grain. Flavor is more of a lemon soap. Pretty good beer.

Draft and bottles since debut.
Clear, auburn-mahogany highlights in a dark mahogany body. Small, light-tan head shows moderate retention.
Very straightforward, English-evolved porter with great roast, dark fruit, vanilla, dark chocolate and strong fruity esters. Clean and malty with no alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it shows a great balance between high attenuation and lightly sticky, malty, sweet chocolate and caramel. Coffee-like notes are mild and fruity. Soft-to-slick, chocolatey and with engaging carbonation. Substantial but also very drinkable and refreshing. Back before I stopped drinking real beer and started drinking novelty beer, I always looked forward to this one.

Bottles and cans since inception.
Clear, dark chestnut-tinged (in the light), dark mahogany-to-ebony. Butter-to-dark beige head atop is medium-sized showing moderate retention.
Some ash, char and molasses quickly gives way to fruitier, light roast, light caramel and vanilla with strong, somewhat dull, mineral character.
Soft-to-slick in the mouth with an oily-to-sticky texture at times, as well. Molasses, milk chocolate and vanilla with interludes of sweetness and fruity roast interspersed with somewhat low and loose carbonation creating a watery feel. Clean, heavy mineral, no alcohol. Some dull ash.

Bottles and draft since inception.
Clear, amber-tinted golden with an off-white head showing moderate to strong retention.
Fruity yeast and heavily floral hops gain light toasted malt character and a bit of very strong cracker. Herbs and light mineral linger on the finish.
In the mouth it's sweeter than expected with herbal and floral hops that show not quite enough bitterness to balance the heavy array of paper, cracker and biscuit and yet honey and whitebread-rich sweetness. Kind of feels like the IPA but with much less PNW dominance.

Bottle at Deep Ellum back in 2011.
Clear, dark mahogany with burnt umber highlights and a small, tan head showing moderate retention.
Big and rich with oily roast, dark fruits and light vanilla. Good attenuation, highly fruity and if I recall correctly, this had at least been aged on oak chips, if not full barrel, coming out quite mild on the wood, with just light toast and mild, warming alcohol on the end.
In the mouth it's soft, rich and tightly carbonated with good attenuation, lightly spicy bourbon character, dark roast, dark fruits, vanilla and good wood tannin. Chocolate and caramel on the finish with light warmth but no aggressive alcohol nor oak/bourbon. Quite nice and great attenuation and texture.
