Pint at the source. Deep reddish auburn color with a fair amount of haze and a frothy off white head that shows good retention. Rich bready pilsner maltiness with slight hints of light fruit. Initially I thought the spicy hop bite was a bit overdone for the style, but my palette adjusted quickly and I enjoyed the hell out of this pint, and the company!

Keg pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is nice light brown pour with no sparkle, light head with decent lacing. Aroma is roasted malt more than smoke. Taste is smoke dominant bitterness. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, with long, pleasantly bitter finish. Overall, a lot to like here. Given that the smokiness is going to dominate almost everything, there is surprisingly more going on.

Keg pour from NH Brewfest. Appearance is dark black pour with small amount of amber/red at edges of glass, off-white ring of head with attractive lacing, no sparkle. Aroma is roasted malts with good amount of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is moderately sweet (maybe a tad too much?) with more chocolate than coffee. Palate is medium with mainly soft/mellow carbonation overall but small amount of zing, finish is balance of bitter and sweet with slight nod to sweet. Overall, high marks all around.

4oz sample at the Brewery. Pours a hazy yellow with a faint pinkish tinge to it and a frothy off white head that persists forever. Classic wit aroma with a slightly yeasty earthiness offset with some light orange and spice. Add some tart cranberries and it really adds another layer to this beer. Slightly tart a little fruity and earthy in the flavor. Light to medium body with slick tart mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation. I’m not a huge fan of this style but somehow adding a bit of cranberry makes this somewhat drinkable, great job North’s.

12 oz. can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Portsmouth. Hazy orange in color with spotty head retention in the pint glass. Aroma is pretty nice, tropical fruit, light florals and mild pine.

The malt bill is nice and balance the sturdy amount of hops. The malts gives sweetness but doesn’t become to sweet. As any IPA, this is best had real fresh because other wise this nice hop profile will fade. The hops right now are bright and are exactly as the aroma. Juicy tropical fruit in the center with a nice lasting pine toward the finish. Nicely crafted and I really enjoy the balance of fruit and pine.
