Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.

in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

(Bottle, White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 1 Dec 2007) Pale amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity nose with orange peel and apricots resting on a fairly sweet malt foundation with hints of toffee. Fruity taste with notes of citrus (orange, grapefruit), some underlying malt sweetness and hints of toffee, leaving with a whiff of floral hops in the finish. Nice balance, good beer.

2007 Pour is a deep dark black with no head at all. Aroma is a fantastic with a strong bourbon with some wood smoke and vanilla. Flavor just tastes dark. Some chocolate, vanilla and wood again show up, with a big bold alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is very heavy and thick. Only a few sips into this and i can already feel a warming presence. Kinda pricy at $5 for a 12oz but this is a beer that must be tried.

An interesting combination of dry malt and dry hops. Moderately hopped, far more than your average brown ale. Some caramel in finish. Dark brown color.

Bright amber color. Nice aroma of American hops. Good malt, caramel and toffee flavor, some sweetness but also a bit dry, with a finish of good hops, balanced, more resiny than fruity (but it’s supposed to be Cascade). Also this one is very well brewed.

Cloudy blond color. Aroma of sugar and lemon zest. Tastes more like a Lager than a wheat, breadish. The final is quite crispy. Refreshing.

Hazy light blond color, creamy head. The aroma has some cereals and malt. The mouthfeel is weak, with some residual sweetness, but not enough flavor or bitterness. Too simple.

2010-08-04, bottle from Salling in Århus, vintage 2009, 1 year old, 5-4-5-2-9=25
Hazy light amber color; thin head. The aroma is lighly acidic. The body is not very strong, and there is an evident sourness. This bottle is spoiled.

2008-04-30, bottle vintage 2007, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Hazy amber color with red shades. The aroma is a bit soapy. Soft mouthfeel, medium body, but the flavor is not impressive. Overall, not as good as the draught one.

2007-09-29, draught at the brewpub, Clybourn location, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Hazy amber color; creamy head. Nice aroma, malty, spicy and yeasty, Belgian style. Good mouthfeel, round; malty flavor, with a sweet spicy character (described as mellow tartness by the brewery); good bitterness. Mature brew, excellent Belgian example.

Dark brown color, like Coke. Light roasted malt aroma. Dry mouthfeel, with a delicate nutty roasted malt flavor and very light ashes. Nice, because the roasted malt is not too strong.

bottle ’06 - Pours hazy gold with a huge head. This one took awhile to pour. The aroma is of sweet malt and some citrus. The flavor is very sweet with light citrus notes, and a touch of spice and alcohol. It’s pretty good, but I don’t think they’ve quite nailed the style. edit: Enjoyed on draft this year. It’s better that way. Bumping up my rating just a little...

As pictured bottle, fall 2007 version. Not sure why there is a separate listing for this. Gentle beer aroma. Good appearance of dark beer. Veggie spice and hop bite. Medicinal at times. Decent carbonation for a medium offensive beer. Lingering bitter grapefruit rind finish. Still has bite after several minutes.
