Bottle from jimbowood. Amber-orange body, thin/medium off-white head. Big piney, biscuity aroma with abundant citrus (grapefruit) rind. Rindy body, citric and bitter, with pine needles completing the hops contribution. Big, biscuity, caramely hops. Rich and potent, but doesn’t break any new ground. That’s not a flaw, however.

Gold-amber beer, clear; amberish tinted small head. Brett nose, sourish, Orval-like with the near imperceptible Orval sourishness abnormally enlarged; very fruity, citrus, etc. Sweet taste, bit malty, little sourishness in the taste. Sweet dough - like taste, pinch of salt included. Dry, restrained hops, orange zeste. And, I think, fatty acids. Light to medium bodied, rather dry, but at the same time the fatty acids/ phenolic (?) feel. A good try - but no match for the original, not in a long time!

Small dark-foxy head over utterly black beer. Blueberries, brambles, licorice, black mushrooms, earthy, vinous and woody nose - definitely Bourbon casks. Woody, alcoholic, "jap" (liquorice sweets) and vanilla; coffee at the end. I enjoy the main taste enormously, but the finish is just a tad too harsh-licorice for me. Black Chinese tea with lots of higher alcohols and quite some tannines. Rich, voluptuous, oily MF. A truly great barrel-aged stout. Another one, I agree, but, hey, keep them coming. Bottle from Utobeer. Copper red colour with beige head and yeasty hop aroma. Quite good minerally malt, some caramel. Hoppy grapefruit/tangerine finish. They’ve more or less done what they wanted, an English bitter (bit of boiled sweet) with green US hops

Bottle from Utobeer. Copper colour with thin white head. Nicely aromatic US hop aroma, with a cross between grapefruit and tea. Fine in mouth, bit lacking in structure and malt balance, but hey. Finish is unsurprisingly zingy and hoppy with grapefruit and more tea. I mean yeah, it’s nice. Difficult to get a character in a beer so richly hopped 3.6/5 Re-rate 11/07/07 Bottle at Brew Wharf, Borough. Lovely beer. Lovely grapefruit hop aroma and excellent bitterness on finish. Really impressed.

Hazy light amber colour. Lightly fruity, a bit apricotty. Very candy sweet. Full body, a bit sticky. Decent flavour development but you really need to be in the mood for sweet.

Mine is opaque brown, but I make a point to get the sediment into the glass. The head does start very big but never completely fades, staying at maybe 1/4 inch of foam ringing the edge of the glass. They nailed the aroma, with malt and light fruit, but it is a little light in that regard. Good flavor. Loads of sweet malt and lighter fruit. Lightly spiced. Yeast shows up in the aftertaste along with some alcohol, which is hidden fairly well by the substantial malt body. Very smooth and easy to drink. Should age well. Well done. But a screw off cap?

Pours deep and dark with very little head that is a dark brown. The aroma is strong and got to me almost as soon as I opened the bottle. Chocolate and coffee with roasted malts seem to be the main things I noticed but was rounded out by a touch of sweetness and a light alcohol scent as well. The flavor is ever changing. At first you taste the alcohol and the sweetness of the beer which seems to come from dark fruits and caramel. As you drink it you continually notice the alcohol but the flavor changes to chocolate and finishes with a strong roasted coffee flavor. The alcohol is always present and not hidden at all but that is what I expected, a great beer.

Draught at Rose and Raindrop, Portland. Clear golden. Lightly fruity aroma. Medium sweet with notes of peach. Near full bodied. Flavours of grass, mango and peach. Medium bitterness. Fairly easy going barley wine.

Bottle of 355 ml from Vinmonopolet, Norway. Pale brown. Thin head. Dominated by hops all the way through. Hoppy aroma, hoppy flavour and hoppy aftertaste - and I like it.
