Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.
in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

My bottle is like BOBANDDOUG’s. Bottled 10/08/07. I’ll put one away. Aroma of rather darkly roasted malt. Some hop as the glass approaches the lips. Reddish tinged amber color with a beige head that is quite refined (bottle conditioned!). Medium bodied with refined carbonation. The flavor is roasted malt with some subtle floral hop and some resin. The finish is fairly dry, with some harsh roast notes, and some floral hop bitter lightly building. A dark winter brew, but not overly Xmased. Could be a year round dark ale.

This beer is not all that exciting, but it is comfortable. It has a nice clean malt flavor, avoiding the grainy/chewy tastes in some winter ales. The pour is a deep brown/red with a nice slightly off-white head. The aroma is mostly sweet with notes of molasses and caramel with some slight breadiness underneath. The lfavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. The finish is slightly bitter, too. Medium body and a soft carbonation.

Deep ruby-colored beer, with a frothy white head - the aroma is quite herbal and tea-like, with a raw cane sugar sweetness and a light nutmeg spiciness - fairly creamy mouthfeel - medium hop presence up front, followed by the crisp herbal character from the aroma - sweet, but it is a clean sweetness (nothing sticky hanging around on the palate), not unlike drinking naturally sweetened iced tea, which is what this beer tastes like at times - a very mild warming spiciness crops up at the end, finishing the beer a tad peppery, with a hint of caramel and cherries way in the background - a quality brew, and a bit of an under-rated one as well.

Coutesy of Gillard. Pours a clear deep copper with white head. The aroma is grapefruit hops and a stream of sweet malts. Nice hop representation in the nose. Smooth flavor of grapefruit hop mild bitterness and sweeter hop flavor. The malts contribute nicely with sweet malts and mild caramelization. This is a nicely balanced IPA. Into the finish is even grapefruit hop bitterness.

2007 Bottle:
Deep pitch black coloured body with an almost non-existant tan head. Aroma of pure bourbon - the strongest i’ve ever smelt. Raisins, figs, cherries, espresso and milk chocolate all are noticeable in the nose coupled with the ever present vanilla. Full-bodied; Super-strong malty, chocolate and of course, scotchy taste. An amazing vanilla and oaky taste most potent with the bittering characteristics of coffee and pit fruits. Aftertaste shows so much and lasts longer than I could remember for any beer. Overall, a really good and strong imperial stout with plenty of oaky and sweet characteristics. One that should be sampled by all, if possible. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, Illinois on 02-November-2007.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a big foamy head with some average retention and some small lacing notes. Aroma of spices with a big caramel malt profile. Taste is also dominated by a big caramel malt presence with some sweet notes and a strange mixture of spices. Body could have been fuller. Interesting but lacking something to be truly great.

This ale poured a dark orange colour with a fast disappearing head. To the nose there was heavy scents of lemon and orange citrus, hopps, grass and pine sap. First taste wasn’t as bitter as I expected. Full flavours of citrus with caramel and honey. The finnish is hoppy but not as bitter as expected. This beer ends at a hoppy bitterness that is very light.
