12oz bottle with March 31, 2007 re-labeled on the label. It poured a light copper color with off white head. Nice bitter and mostly sweet smelling orange juice aroma with hints of malt in the background. Rich thick mouth feel that helps you realized this is a pretty big beer even though it is a very easy drinking flavor. There is a medley of hops notes ringing in right off the start with grapefruit, sweet orange juice, some pine bitterness and hints of floral hops. All the hop notes work well together creating a continuum from bitter to sweet hoppiness. Near the finish the malts start bubbling through the thick layer of hop goodness. YUM.

Bottle. 2006 Vintage. Rich dark mahogony beer with a beige head. Big bourbon aroma with vanilla, oak, and caramel. Bourbon flavor, but there’s also malt from the beer. Medium body. Lingering bourbon and sweet oak. Bourbon stringer in aroma than flavor.

EBF 2007 - I was all excited about this one, but quite disappointed after tasting it - there were a lot of boozy bourbon aged beers at this fest, but this was the most boozy - perhaps it was because of the rather thin body and weak malt profile (some brown sugar and caramel), but the bourbon was far too evident, and the alcohol, even though it’s realtively low, really burned - the bourbon, burn and malt come together for an almost hot cinnamon candy (you know what I mean) finish - pretty lopsided, and very out of balance.

Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a cloudy yellowish/copper color ale with a nice foamy pure white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet floral malt with a nice mix of hops with some citrus notes but nothing overwhelming. Taste is a complex mix between some sweet malt with a nice mix between floral and citrusy hops which provide medium bitterness at the end. Body is above average with some medium carbonation and no alcohol could be detected.

Bottle. Poured cloudy straw color. Some foam that hung around for about 5 minutes. Aroma is distant citrus, bit of malt. The taste is muted wheat and bubbles. Surprised at the carbonation. Nothing really stands out in this one, and certainly is not a big wheat, but it is quite drinakable.

2006 edition bottle (Year printed on label neck). Sour Flemish smell underneath the cap. Sun filtered brown in a goblet, thin ring of foam. Sweet light malts in the taste, but also a nice dryness. Hints of orange, perhaps some coriander, either added or created by the yeast. Melded with sharp European hop notes. Very tasty and worthy of the style… and the beer I’m drinking as the Bears just punched their tickets to the SUPER BOWL!!!

Bottled(355ml). -No sign of ABV on the label. Pours a dark amber coloured with a small but persistent white head. The aroma is sweet malty and hoppy with fruity and spicy notes. Subdued caramel notes in the background. Mild bitter finish.

Bottle. Pour is deep black, restaurant served straight from fridge in a chilled glass - shame! After letting it warm, aroma is roasted malt and a little bit of light sweetness. Taste is coffee, faint cocoa and roasted malt. I really didn’t get mush of an oatmeal feel with this one, but a nice stout nevertheless.

Bottled 22 June 2005, sampled 13 January 2007. Hazy light orange body, thin off-white head. Bready, biscuity nose with caramel and butterscotch, estery. Herbal, medicinal body with abundant breads and burnt caramel. Sweet with warming alcohol. The hops are tired and stale, as expected. It’s been awhile since I’ve purchased Goose Island, and this beer reminds me why that is. This joins their Honker’s Ale, 312 Urban Wheat, and Summer Ale in its cardboardy staleness.

Hazy pale yellow body, like a lemonade but with straw tones, thin off-white head. Earthy, biscuity aroma. Light, tart, bready body, grassy. Tastes a bit stale despite the 10 April 2007 drink by date, although, come to think of it, that same taste characterizes their Summer Ale. Rather dull and boring, and I’m not a big fan of the palate, either. Pass.
