300ml bottle [Heer van Gramsbergen, 11.0% abv]. Darkest ruby red colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Malty aroma has notes of dried fruit, raisin, plum, smokey notes in the background, a yeasty touch. Taste is initially dry, hints of dried fruit with subtle sweetness, later more and more smoky; long lasting, sticky finish with smoky notes, hints of ashes, ham, subtle chocolately sweetness. Rich and complex, full bodied, oily texture, sticky palate. Successful use of smoked malt in unusual context.

Bottle sampled at the Gouda Winterbier festival. Pours hazy brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of tobacco, leather, overripe dark fruits and caramel. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Tap @ Drie Dorstige Herten, medium sample. Clear copper color, medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, hint of raisin, some unrefined sugar, slight grassy hop. Medium sweet in taste, but a nice sweetness of caramel and sugar. Medium bitter as well. Quite clean.
