Easygoing Berliner Weisse with a mild, wheat-tinged backside. Tartness comes across sharp but levels off quickly, leading to a modestly sour middle and a gentle, biscuity fade. Not bad but forgettable.

22 oz. bottle. Pours clear, dark brown, with a medium, beige, rocky head. The nose is caramelized sugar, anise, fresh cut oak, dry grass, and mild toffee. Sweet and malty, a bit roasty, and lightly, unpleasantly bitter. Medium body, sticky, astringent, and chewy. This is a complex and harsh brown ale. Too much roast and thick malts, and not balanced.

Big Ups! to burg326 for shipping me this beauty. Thanks Adam! The red waxed 156/400 bomber pours with a murky deep copper to amber body that supports a 2 minute long tan head of foam. The aroma offers up smooth sweet oxidized ripe brown sugar coated cherries, caramel, a bit more brown sugar and then a light toffee sensation just as the boozy heat hits at the end of the draw. The taste delivers lots of tasty residual sugars like caramel, nectar sweet malts and a bit of toffee flowing into brown sugar stewed dates and plums. Solid! It’s smooth and slick and sweet but it doesn’t get anywhere near being too much so. The booze and faint woody barrel character help create some balance to the sweetness that’s going on. Yeah, I could easily drink more of this.
