Description
Sixpoint was founded in 2004 (we like to say it was born at the dawn of civilization, though that’s a story for another time…) in the rough and tumble neighborhood of Red Hook, BKLYN. It was essentially a cult brewery — draft-only, mysterious, cryptic…

In 2010 we released our canned creations, and have been tweaking, improving, and releasing new formulations ever since. Then in May of 2017, we took our biggest step forward to date, releasing all of our ales raw and unfiltered, and simultaneously incorporating new and incredible raw materials obtained over years of sourcing.

In November 2018, Sixpoint was acquired by Artisanal Brewing Ventures.

Super hoppy in your mouth. If you like it thats what this beer got. Super hoppy on the nose, if thats what you want this beer will clear you sinuses. Color is orange and clear, strong small head. I would have no idea this is a "wheat" beer. All fruity, lightly resin-y but easy drinking hops with low bitterness. Taste lacks even a bit more substance than the aroma. As I keep drinking this it gets very tiring and uninteresting.

Draft at Ginger Man, NYC. I was impressed with this porter. Appealing pour with a light brown head and dark brown body. The heavy aroma has lots of coffee and sweet chocolate in it. Roasted malts and smoke fill out the profile. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Moderate acidity, too. The medium body had a watery texture and average carbonation. Dry finish with a slightly metallic aftertaste. Very enjoyable.

Draft at Blind Tiger. Cloudy, dark brown pour with a small, off-white head. Average aroma of toasted and roasted malts with some hints of floral hops and smoke. The flavor was lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body with average carbonation. Bitter finish. The hop profile in this reminded a little of 3Fs Robert the Bruce, but the malt profile wasn’t quite up to snuff for a scotch ale. Still, a pleasant, easy-to-drink beer.

The beer is a dark brown color. Aroma is light candied dirt, lightly earthy, and faint pine. Taste is really nothing much, faintly sweet dark malts, and faintly sticky. Some mineral in there and leaves a dry earthy aftertaste. there is nothing off putting but really nothing strong comes out. Where as the tripel was a good recreation of the style this needs more work. Simply, its a faintly Scotch Ale.
On tap @ Blind Tiger, tulip glass.

Growler shared by notalush. The beer pours a dark golden color with medium clarity, no head, just a small ring lacing. Aroma is definitely Belgian and not hoppy, so far that’s a big deal for a Sixpoint beer. There is an herbal-Belgian candied sweetness and light yeasty-dough. Taste us sweet, a bit too sweet for the style and losses the herbalness. Finishes with a nice short earthy sweet aftertaste. Nice above average American Tripel.

[growler] - slightly hazy golden beer, with a slight orange tint - aroma of belgian sugars, tangerine, orange peel, grains of paradise - quite full-bodied, and almost oily - fairly herbal (coriander and orange peel are pretty strong) and flowery, with a rather high sweetness that gets a bit cloying - kind of brash and aggressive for the style, but for Sixpoint, it’s actually fairly subdued - it’s nice to see them showing restraint, especially in the hop department. (sampled again this evening, and got a fairly strong alcohol burn/flavor on the back end which got to be fairly astringent after a while - gonna have to knock off a notch for that one).

[growler] Oh...hell...yes! - sixpoint just put my favorite coffee in the world into a beer - what’s not to like? - turbid brown beer, with a small, fizzy head - a coffee explosion in the nose, with some background cocoa, plum, tobacco - the coffee flavor is indeed intense, and there is an oiliness to the beer that may well be the coffee bean oils - slightly creamy, with a light vanilla sweetness, some cream - amazing balance of sweetness and roast, with extreme, but not overpowering coffee flavor mixed in - wonderful stuff.

I guess I will stick with the mode rating (completely coincidental). The beer is a dark amber color with a small sticky head. Aroma actually has something new for a Sixpoint beer, not a completely hoppy beer. There is a sweet spiciness that I attribute to the rye, like a lightly phenolic-y wheat. This is actually as strong if not stronger than the usual hop aromas of citrus and thick sweet floral tea. Taste combines the two aspects, with a reduction in the rye presence. The beer is sort of a light assault on the senses with the strong rye and strong hops. This was probably the best Sixpoint experience I had in a while.

@ Brazen Head on cask-pours a ? head and hazy copper color. Aroma is yeasty, sweet medium malt, fruity. Taste is yeasty, clove, sweet medium malt-caramel, fruity, some rock candy, rye, peat. Lots going on. Minimum carbonation. Dry, mellow.

Growler thanks to beastiefan2k, the trivia master and master of the world. The color of this beer is a dark brown and murky. It pours with a big head and a sticky lacing (all over the glass). Aroma is hoppy (what a surprise) sweet, resin-y, oily, citrus and pine. In general sweet, strong, and yummy. Taste is less interesting on these aspects, a bit empty for me actually. The mouthfeel is actually a bit fuzzy, no not fizzy but fuzzy.
