Draught @ Birra-Italian Craft Beer, Berlin. Pours dark amber with a creamy tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, little dried fruit. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, little fruit. Medium body, soft to average carbonation, sweet finish. 300720

Flasche, gekauft bei Hops & Barley als Mosaic Pale Ale, aber auf dem Etikett steht nur Pale Ale, warum auch immer. - Goldbraun, gut trüb. - In der Nase saftig-aromatischer aber runder zitrusfruchtiger Hopfen: weiche Pampelmuse, Mango, Karamel. - Antrunk weich und glatt zitrusfruchtig mit Pampelmuse, Mango und feiner Zitronenschale, nur dezent herb. Karamellig, wenig süß; ganz zarte, noch nicht störende säuerliche Note. Mild rezent, beinahe schal, schwach seifig. Im Abgang grasige Bittere mit Tabak, die an alten Hopfen erinnert. - Trotz großzügiger Hopfung schal und etwas lahm, nicht recht überzeugend. Vielleicht ist diesem Bier, das sonst nur vom Faß zu haben ist, die Flaschenabfüllung nicht bekommen. (29.7.2020.)

“Orange Abbey Brown Ale“ von Hops & Barley, vom Faß im schönen Friedrichshain. - Schönes Kupfergold. - In der Nase schöne exotische Hopfenaromen, Harz, Mango, Pampelmuse. - Antrunk satt karamelmalzig mit gedämpfter harzig-zitrusfruchtiger Hopfenherbe. Milder rezent, weich. Im Abgang runde Hopfenherbe mit Pampelmuse. - Von dem Wort “Abbey“ angelockt, erwartete ich hier ein abteiartig malzschweres, süßes Bier, aber dieses ist ein hopfenbetontes Ale, das ich mit geschlossenen Augen gar nicht als braunes erkannt hätte. Das Dunkel vom Hops & Barley, vom Faß im versifften Friedrichshain. - Tiefdunkles Kupferrotbraun. - In der Nase dezentes dunkles und röstiges Malz, feine herbale Hopfennoten. - Antrunk schlank und weich mit gediegen dunklem, kräftig röstigem Malz, Vollkornbrot, ein wenig Asche, etwas Torf. Sehr dezente Malzsüße; äußerst feine, perfekt abgeschmeckte zitronige Note. Feine herbale Hopfenherbe. - Ausgezeichnetes, rundes und tiefes Dunkles, nicht so dünn und süß wie viele. (24.7.2020.)

Brewed as a pils with Tettnanger hops and then dry hopped with mosaic. Faintly hazy but otherwise looks like a pils in the glass. Intense nose of citrus, tropical fruit, grapefruit and faint earthiness of the noble hops. Promises a bit more than it delivers in the mouth, a bit watery, it could do with a bit more lingering hoppiness: maybe a true bittering hop in addition. Otherwise a pleasure to drink.

Hops & Barley Spezialpils, Dose, gebraut & abgefüllt für Toucan Mobile Canning, Berlin, von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin. - Dunkelgoldgelb, schwach trüb. - In der Nase schön intensiver zitrusfruchtiger und tropischer, zart erdiger Aromahopfen. - Antrunk fest und kernig gerstig-hellmalzig mit leichter Karamelnote und intensiver, frischer Hopfung mit Zitrus- und tropischer Frucht, leicht blumig und zart erdig. Milder rezent, vollmundig, weich. Im Abgang mildere aber solide hopfenwürzige Herbe. - Knackig gehopftes Pilsener mit fülligerem Malzkörper als üblich. Sehr lecker. (16.2.2020.)

On tap at Hops & Barley, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out medium roast and crusty bready malt. Flavour is quite roasty, with hearty oatmeal, medium roast, and some earthy notes. Hearty and well-balanced. Very good.

On tap at Hops & Barley, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out citrus hops, some pine, and caramely bready malt. Flavour is fairly sweet, with hops resins, some pine, and caramely bready malt. Nicely balanced, with the resins and sweet caramel quite cohesive. Solid.

On tap at Hops & Barley, pours a hazy amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt and a hint of caramel. Flavour is fairly malty, with bready malt, toasted caramel, and cereal malt. Quite malty yet not too sweet. Pleasant amber.

On tap at Hops & Barley, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out of toasted malt, caramel, and bready notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with dry bready caramel. Very nice and malty, with little residual sweetness. Very good.
