Bottle from Ball Square. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a huge bone white head that dissipates quickly to a cap on top. Lemon and orange creamsicle aromas up front with a sweet light sugariness and a peppery yeasty funk rounding it all out. The flavor is sweet with candied orange dipped in a mix of honey and pepper. A little bit of biscuit and earthy hop flavor mixed with a general yeastiness rounds out the flavors here. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a slick bubbly mouthfeel. Decent beer, a bit bubbly but tasty on this summer day.

Bottle from Ball Square. Pours an incredibly clear deep straw color with a huge fluffy white head that dissipates quickly but leaves some stickies on the side of the glass. The aroma holds some nice sweet bready pilsner malt with hints of citrus, flowers, and a restrained yeastiness. The flavor is quite nice, light bready cracker like maltiness with a hint of sweetness. Very light citrus and yeast flavor rounds this out. Light to medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation and a lightly sweet slick mouthfeel. Very light flavorful easy to drink ale! Hell put this in a summer six pack! Great warm weather beer.

Bottle from Ball Square. Pours a really clear Medium golden color with a huge bubbly white head that is continually fed by a steady stream of carb bubbles. Earthy and floral hops dominate the aroma with a bit of bready yeasty funk and hints of pepper and spice rounding out the nose. The flavor is a yeasty bready affair with plenty of spice to cut through it all. Light floral earthy hop flavor with hints of melon like fruit. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a tart bubbly mouthfeel. Another Saison this time a little hoppy. This one is drinkable, not my favorite from them, but good just the same.

Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Fluffy white head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Wheat, summer meadow and tropical fruit aromas. Dry front to back with sweet caramel and wheat upfront turning mild pepper in the lasting finish.

750 c&c from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours hazy gold with a 3 finger foamy white head. Aroma is grassy and lemony with a hint of funk. Near full bodied til the carb leaves. Flavor starts grassy and lemony, then moves on to a dry earthy/funky place. It’s so good I keep expecting some oak to pop out. With time I get a little peppery spice. Mild tongue tingle. Finishes dry and mildly earthy with grass. Extremely tasty.

Bottle from Downtown Wine and Spirits. Pours a fairly clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a smallish off white head that dissipates rather quickly. Smells of charred wood and smoked ham mostly with hints of sweet caramel malts deep underneath. The flavor starts off sweet with hints of caramel and brown sugar and bits of burnt wood. The palette quickly dries out and leaves a smokey almost fruity taste coating the inside of my mouth. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet phenolic mouthfeel. Pretty good rauchbier that’s not too over the top meaty at the campfire.

Bottle from Downtown Wine and Spirits. Pours a hazy light brown with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly to a cap but lingers forever. Aromas of rich dark and caramelized sugars with a bready yeasty and fruity edge. The flavor is more sweet sugary darker malts with a bit of a minerally almost salty flavor coming through. Bready with hints of rum and raisins and a bit of an earthy herbal hop flavor and bite. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet but sharp mouthfeel. Decent beer, but not something I could drink very much of. I expect a bit of mineral bite in an English ale, but here its a bit strong and harsh.

Pours a nice light orange, yellow at the edges. A sunny, glowy shade of beer. Big puffy white head. Lots of lacing. A nice sheet of bubbles sticks around for quite some time. The aroma leads with sweet, fresh grain. It’s followed up by a solid mix of saison flavors. Lemons, earth, grassy hops, light pepper, a nice mineral note, dusty barnyard and some mild funk. The taste is dry with lots more good saison flavor. It starts out with that fresh grain flavor. Then pepper, earth and some light stone fruit come in. It dries out in the finish, and the hops kick in with some grass and herbal flavors. Mouthfeel is light and easy on the palate. Nice beer. It’s a very solid saison, true to Dupont’s formula though no clone. I’d definitely be interested in trying more from Mystic.
