Tasting at Bruce’s new pad. Thanks to Leighton for this one. Hazy amber beer with a small pale cream coloured head. Smooth and softish palate with light fine carbonation. Light airy malt and light sourness. Whisper of brett and touch of floral flavour. Very light fruits before a light dry finish. Not bad.

Bottle from the Brewery. Pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a decent sized white head that persists for a while leaving sticky lace in its wake. Smells of light sugary caramel, pepper, a hint of funk and a touch of berry. The flavor is funk in your face at first sip, but that quickly fades to a sweet honey and candy sugar flavor. Some pepper and berries linger midway before a bit of a light lingering fruity sweetness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet light bubbly mouthfeel. That subtle berry flavor and aroma is wild. I really liked this beer, but its not exactly what I think of when I think Saison. Its a little sweeter and less bubbly, but damn it is tasty.

Pours gold into a tulip. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Mild caramel aromas. Soft and sweet with dry fruity yeast and caramel upfront turning to marshmallow in the medium length finish. Interesting, but I was expecting some blueberry and/or tartness...

Bottle from the brewery Pours a hazy light golden color with a good sized off white head that persists forever leaving soapy lace on the sides. Smells of pear, a bit of funk, some grape and winey notes and just a hint of vanilla and oak tannin. Sweet very light honey sugary notes with bits of pomme fruit, grape skins, and a touch of oak. Medium to light body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a slick bubbly mouthfeel. Tasty easy drinking light refreshing saison. I wish I had bought more than one bottle, doh!

750 ml bottle with batch 001 stamped on the side. Is my mind playing tricks on me? Because I swear I smell berries…. Dark hazy, dirty gold in color, no head. No blueberries were harmed in the making of this brew, yet other than the yeast, I swear I get berry. The flavor is elusive. Yeasty, bready malts spicy pepper and a moderate herbal note. Maybe a pollen or honey note? Active carbonation and a medium body. I like it but it’s not my favorite from Mystic by far.

750 ml bottle with batch 001 stamped on the side. Chalice show a unclear gold color with thin bubbles of head. REAL interesting nose of yeast, white grapes, oak wood and a light citrus sweetness. After the aroma I was hoping for great flavor… it delivered. Upfront is a lactic tartness, with spicy yeast, funky white grapes and just a few kisses of oak. The yeast shows up again after the sip. Carbonation is perfect and the palate is light, crisp and damn refreshing! Mystic does a great job with this style… they put out another fine saison here.
