Batch 001 Bottle from the Brewery. Pours a solid amber color with a huge tightly bubbled off white head that persists forever. Brown sugar, caramel and lots of spicy rye make up most of the aroma here. Light yeasty esters remind you this has a Belgian strain. Little to no hop aroma. Sweet dark sugary flavor with hints of rye spice, yeast, a touch of alcohol and a bit of aspirin in the finish. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick almost tart mouthfeel. The dark sugary flavor is a nice change but there’s a bitterness in here that disagrees with me. Decent beer, but not something I’m likely to seek out again.

Bottle at Bruce’s, thanks to Leighton. It pours hazy amber with a bubbly white head. The nose is wood, leather, dank, must, over-ripe fruit and barnyard. The taste is crisp, tangy orange, earth, brett, Irn Bru, plum skin, wood, earth and spice. Medium body, moderate+ carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Nice tangy wild aspect. Decent.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London. This one I got in the States. Pours hazy, rich gold with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma holds earth, some ripe fruits, berries. Light sweet flavor, some musty berries, earth, wet wood, mild bread, pine. Light bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Mild funky tang to finish, more earth, slight grass, ripe and slightly rotting fruits. Not bad.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a smallish off white head that slowly dissipates to wisps of foam on the top. Smells of spicy earthy floral hops and a hint of grapefruit pith. Light bit of diacytyl atop a light bready sweet sugary malt base. The flavor is bright with bitter hop flavor. Earthy citrusy hops meld with a crackery bready malt base. Light bit of diacytyl, ok for style. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick resinous mouthfeel. Nice flavorful easy drinking pale ale.

750 ml bottle Batch 1 on label. Amber / brown in color with thin white head. Nose is a good dose of rye, sugar and caramel. Flavor is much the same with the rye being the dominate. Dusty yeast element to it as well. Body is medium and smooth. Interesting take on the saison style. It does work for the cooler weather, slightly above average.
