Draft at Churchkey, during CBC 2013 week, Washington DC as Blue Jacket Saffron saison: Weak lemon nose. Cloudy yellow, thin head. Lemony flavor and tart. Malty finish. Light body, alcohol not noticeable. Straight up with little discernible nuance.

Draft. Hazy brown color, medium tan head. Aroma of cocoa, dark fruit. Taste is toffee, caramel, chocolate.

Pours black into an English pint. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to nothing. Chocolate and anise aromas. Thin and dry with dark chocolate and licorice upfront turning to mild smoke in the earthy resin finish.

Sampled at Churchkey during CBC week. Pours a hazy blond with some cloudy white head. Nose of mild malt, light citrus, a little cheese rind, yeast. Flavor is malty, sweet, lemon, brie with honey. Clean finish.

Sampled at EBF. Pours a clear orange with some white head. Boozy, gross nose, rotten fruit, coconut. Flavor is also gross, sticky, ice cider, coconut, rotten pineapple. Full, boozy finish. Not good.

Sampled at EBF. Pours a clear yellow, looks like a pils. Smells a little trashy, spice, white grape, light funk, pepper. Flavor is better, sweet flower petals, pear, white grape juice, apple. Sweet, medium bodied finish.

On tap at EBF 3/16/13. Sweet with lots of honey like and pilsner malt in the nose. Sweet malty beer with a light dose of floral hops and a bit of yeastiness. Nice solid easy to drink saison.

On tap at EBF 3/16/13. A soured version of my favorite Mystic beer, yes please! There’s not much roast and chocolate left in this beer and what is left has become slightly chalky. This beer is smooth with a nice cherry tartness and a light fruity sourness. I’m not sure if this was a barrel gone wrong or an experiment, but I really enjoyed this.

Draft @ Prohibition Pig. Half pour. Nose is lightly funky yeast with a mild tartness. Taste is subtle funk with a slightly herbal taste. Has a mild grassiness to the flavor. The flavor is rather interesting. Unique stuff. I really enjoy this brewery as a whole. Nice job with this one!
