GBBF. Very hazy amber beer, little pale tan head. Smooth palate. Mild superfine carbonation. Sweetish malt with a little lactose. Very mild alcohol spice. Mild dried fruits. Smooth dry finish. Well joined up if somewhat dry Barleywine.

Pours deep hazy brown into a tulip. White head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface leaving spider lacing. Aspirin and funk aromas. Sweet caramel and hay upfront turning to sweet sourdough before the dry bread finish. Reminds me of a mild Fantome.

750 ml bottle. English pint shows a deep brown with ruby highlights. Slow pour produced large, lasting off white head. Nose is molasses and brown sugar. Carbonation gives a massive effervesces across the tongue. Taste is dark malts, caramel, brown sugar, raisins and molasses. Has Belgian yeast that gives it a Belgian Dark Ale feel to it. The finish certainly is dry. Has an almost cottonball texture. ABV is totally hidden. This is nice, worth a try.

Bottle: Poured a dark color ale with a medium size foamy head with medium retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of light bourbon notes with some light traces of molasses. Taste is also a mix between some molasses and other residuals sugar with some medium notes of bourbon though not as much vanilla as I would have expected. Body is a bit light for style with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but I was expecting the bourbon to bring more vanilla notes and more of a creamy body which wasn’t the case.

Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma consists of molasses and other light residual sugar with subtle vinous notes. Taste is also a mix between some light tart notes with some subtle vinous notes with some molasses and residual sugar notes. Boyd is a bit light with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. A bit of a strange one with most stout characteristics gone and not enough cabernet notes to make a real difference.

On tap at Meadhall. Pours a dark brown bordering on black with a huge creamy off white head that persists forever. Yup it smells like a quad. Raisins prunes and plums meet brown sugar and caramel with a hint of dark chocolate. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Thick rich sweet dark malts mixed with some dark fruits. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet burnt sugary mouthfeel. Very nice quad, it does seem a bit young, but I think with a hint more age this is going to be a fantastic brew.

On tap at MeadHall. Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a decent off white head that slowly dissipates to a cap. Aromas of grain, straw, spice, wheat, a bit of tart fruit and a hint of earthy. The smell is a bit different, but I kind of dig it. Flavor is sweet honey and bready malts with a shot of spicy wheat and a solid hit of tart fruit. It’s an interesting flavor, it is certainly different kind of like pilsner meets saison with fruit added. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. I liked this, I will have to pick up some bottles when they go on sale.
