On tap at MeadHall. Pours a cloudy golden orange color with a decent off white head that slowly dissipates to a cap. Aromas of grain, straw, spice, wheat, a bit of tart fruit and a hint of earthy. The smell is a bit different, but I kind of dig it. Flavor is sweet honey and bready malts with a shot of spicy wheat and a solid hit of tart fruit. It’s an interesting flavor, it is certainly different kind of like pilsner meets saison with fruit added. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. I liked this, I will have to pick up some bottles when they go on sale.

Belgian Beer Fest Boston. Cloudy yellow color, fluffy white head. Aroma of hay, straw, pepper, dusty barnyard. Taste is smooth and peppery straw. Very nice. No need for tons of alcohol.

Pours a deep clear golden color with a decent sized white ehad that slowly dissipates to a cap. This is the clearest saison yet from Mystic. Smells of bourbon and vanilla right off with lots of caramel, apple, and pepper underneath. The flavor is caramel and light and pomme fruits up front cut with some pepper and yeastiness finishing with a lingering vanilla bourbon and oak tannic treatment. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. I really liked this one. The bourbon is there, but its not hit you over the head strong like lots of beer these days. Oh and there’s a pretty good saison underneath there too.

Pours a hazy golden lemon color with a huge fluffy white head that persists forever and leaves lots of lace on the way down. Smells of lemon and pepper with a spicy edge. Belgian yeasty phenols and a hint of earthy spicy hops. Sweet and malty flavor with hints of bread caramel and lemon. The flavor has hints of yeasty and spicy but not as much as the nose lead me to believe. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a sweet crisp mouthfeel. That’s a nice saison right there. Its sweet with a bit of tart and a bit of spice but it all works together really well. This has been my favorite so far from the Mystic Saison Brewery.

Pours a mostly clear deep golden color with a huge bubbly white head that slowly fades after sticking some lace to the sides of the glass. When the bottle first popped I was assaulted with lots of wonderful sweet fruity aromas, but as my sample sits those have dissipated. Smells of pear and pepper with a sweet malty backbone and a bready yeasty quasi funk going on. The flavor is sweet and bready with some honey and sweet fruit like maltiness underneath a peppery yeasty bite. There’s a slight red wine vinous quality that rounds out the edges nicely. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. This is a nice Saison, but I feel that the Cab barrel adds a red wine flavor that doesn’t agree with my palette.

Bottled at the Hill Farmstead Festival of Farmhouse Ales. Kind of cloudy, dirty orange-amber with lace. Very ester nose. Peaches, wood, a little bourbon, vanilla. Interesting flavor. Very fruity, peach, apple, pineapple, white grape, some wood, a bit of vanilla. Not a whole lot of bourbon but the wood comes through. Tasty. Pretty smooth and light.
