Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a cloudy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is dominated by the yeast with a little graasy hop and bitter treacle. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a sharp yeast liqourice palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. An English pale ale? I don’t really think so, but a nice try all the same.

Tap from the brewpub. Poured a hazy dark amber with a bubbly round head. The aroma. Is sour acid. It even looks like vinegar. The flavour is medium sour with a slightly odd bitter palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Nice for sour heads. Not the best, but refreshing and quite drinkable.

On tap at the brewpub. I see this has been added, but I’m not sure if this really is a new beer. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, toast, chocolate, some liqourice, hint of berries. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, roast, toast, chocolate, light fruity, nice roasted bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

On tap at the brewpub. Hazy deep golden colour, white head. Aroma is quite spicy, almost funky Bretty character, reminds me a bit of Orval, hoppy, floral, light malty, really nice. Flavour is light sweet, light malty, spicy, Brett-like, hint of tartness, nice bitterness, citrus, hoppy bitter finish with a little tang. Light-bodied. Nice twist on an already good beer, and totally different from the other Green Cap offerings IMHO.
