Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Bottle. Color: Clear reddish amber, large frothy white head. Aroma: Malty, subtle spicy, hoppy hints. Bit stale. Taste: Grain, malty, light caramel and fruity, moderate bitter hop background. Some spices. Hop gets somehat more to the foreground at the finish, but doesn't get stronger than the malty side. Medium body, average carbonation. Mwah, not my kind of beer.

Good, dense stable cream-coloured head over fully muddy orange-shot brown beer. Dusty, plywood, melanoidins, quite dry nose with light smoke. Sweetness is there in the mouth, but with a bit more phenolic smoke, leather. Medium bodied at least, very slick, pappery feel. Good carbonation. Quite nice smoked. Thanks to Stef!

Almost clear amber brown beer, good fluffy pale tan head. Airy palate, fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. A little dry malt cream with light caramel. Okay mellow dried fruits underneath. Finishes fluffy with a touch of bitterness. Old skool. Not bad.

Bottle at home. Slight hazy light amber with fluffy pale beige head. Floral hops, soft lemon, grassy, slight dry malts with a soft caramel touch and some fresh bread crust. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with nice full carbonation. Great beer for a SMaSH

Bottle 340/365. Color: Clear reddish brown, amber to ruby, off-white head. Aroma: Malty, yeasty, some caramel, light hints of dark fruit. Taste: Malty, wheat and grain with quite complex subtle notes of red and dark fruit combined together, yeasty notes, candy sugar and some hopbitterness. Moderate to over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to over medium body, just under average carbonation. Quite unusual taste, nice complexity. Likeable. Not the most special taste, but noticeably brewed with good craftsmanship

Auburn with a frothy off-white head that lingers. Very earthy aroma. Dusty too. Prunes underneath. Taste is bittersweet to bitter with a rich, caramel undertone, a yeasty white bread sweetness, and then a big dollop of grassy/herbal bitterness and plain old earth on top. Finishes with a modest warmth. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. It’s challenging but I like this one. Good.

Bottle. Color: Clear ruby, very thin off-white head. Aroma: Sweet dark dried fruit, sirupy. Taste: Sweet, malty, sirupy mouthfeel. Sweet dark dried fruit and sweet red grapes, raisns. Port-like. Bit boozy. Subtle wood and tannins. Some caramel. Over medium sweet, light bitterness. Light hints of nuts. Over medium to full body, low carbonation. Overall the sweetness dominates a bit too much for me, otherwise ok. Curious how this beer would have been after quite a lot of years in the cellar...

Gerookt met turf, maar ook verbrand hout als in een kampvuur. Droog, chocola, roast. Ik adem rooksignalen uit

Bottle. New edition, bottled 27/5/2020. More than 47 bottles this time, I presume. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: A lot of smoke, peat, roasted malt in the background. Taste: Peaty, ash, smoke. Roasted malt and coffee hints in the background. Like a fluid ashtray, not meant in a bad way. Quite smooth mouthfeel. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Long lasting dry and peaty finish. Great beer.
