Had this in bottle at Bracelands Campsite, nr Coleford, Forest of Dean, Glos, Saturday 6th September 2014 Pours pitch black with tan head. The nose is full on elastoplast & germolene and this also shows rather to brazenly in the mouth, I have never been a fan of Islay aged stouts and this is no exception. Some ashy flavours very roasty burnt finish. Not my thing. A4 A5 T3 P3 Ov7 2.2

500ml Bottle from Gloucester Services. The colour is pale gold with a thin white head. Aroma is floral and citrus hops, with some malts. The taste has a light sweetness with hops and caramel malts.

500ml bottle from Gloucester Services. Poured a very dark brown with a beige head. Buttery, toffee & roasted malt aroma. The flavour also has toffee, chocolate and malt with a bitter finish.

On tap at the Bowl Inn, Almondsbury. Deep amber, with a small foamy head. Aroma of butter and bread. Taste has nice malt and caramel, with a bitter finish.

Bottle from Brewer’s Droop, Bristol. Dark brown and opaque, with a creamy, tight, off-white head. Big, black coffee and plain chocolate aroma, with a suggestion of chilli heat. Flavour had more chocolate upfront, some truffle sweetness leading to a toasty finish with some long lasting chilli warmth. Good.

Bottle picked up at Independant Spirit, Bath and consumed at Cropredy ’Fairports Annual Reunion’ Festival, Cropredy, Oxon, Friday 8th August 2014 Pours black with that distinctive germolene and elastoplast nose. It is smooth, rich, roasty with a little liquorice and then the Germolene just ruins it for me, in fact it destroys it in the nose and mouth. If it wasn’t for the fact that I am not so struck on particularly heavily Islayed stouts I might have liked it (I liked the Speyside version) For some reason when I looked at my notes in the field I was looking at a higher mark but on reflection I realised why should I, it weren’t my thing.
