50 cl clear bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is dry almost bretty apple zest. Mild citrusy. Citric, tart apples. Lingering fruity and mild citric into the finish.

(Bottle) Dark, caramel-coloured beer and there’s a lot of caramel in the aroma too, along with malt. Taste is slightly sweeter than I expected but is characterised by the caramel and malt as well, with a bit of hop in the finish. It’s not quite as tasty as I was expecting but it’s still a very drinkable beer.

Cask at the moon under water jdw. Aroma is earthy wood and vanilla and some milk chocolate sweetness. Dark ruby red colour clear with a looseoff white head. Flavour is dull nutty cardboard malts with touch of choc roast in the finish. Relatively sweet and some mineral. Medium watery palate.

500ml Bottle (Salamander, Bath) - Amber with a small white head. Ginger dominates in the aroma along with notes of pepper and caramel. Gingery and peppery taste with a hint of dried fruit. Refreshing and delicious.

Bottle at new years. Aroma is dried fruit and yeast esters with roast. Dark caramel colour with fleeting tan head. Flavour is chalky roast and berry. Some carbonic bite. Thin palate.

Hand-pulled pint in the lovely ’Grapes’, A Bath Ales owned pub in Oxford on 22 Nov 13. Nice dark body, leaning toward black from a dark brown base, on top a tanned crown. The aroma was spicy and malty with some dark fruit esters thrown in for good measure. Taste wise it followed the smell nicely, malty molasses giving it a semi-sweet flavour, where was my Rum though? It’s supposed to laced with it I believe. Anyway I enjoyed it and thought it more a ’Winter Warmer’ than any sort of Porter. Fairly deep and almost rich body, well made and easy to sup.

Bottle at home from waitrose. Colour is rich copper red with a reductant off white head. Aroma is caramel, nutty malt and twigs with a slight apple note. Flavour is rich layered malty goodness. Nutty, caramel and biscuit, hops are mellow and earthy. Palate is very good, medium body that melts on the tongue. Tasty malt forward beer.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 27 October. Poured a clear amber colour with a tight white head. Spicy aroma with some floral hops and caramel. Flavours of fruit cake, plumbs and straw. Finish was grain, toffee and grassy hop.
