Handpull cask at the Bridge End, Ruabon. Light to mid-gold and crystal clear with a good-sized white head. Light fresh aroma, some light citrus. Bittersweet taste, very crisp, again, hoppy citrus notes but not overdone. Finish is noticeably more bitter. Light to medium body, soft-ish carbonation.

Cask at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured a clear golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is aromatic, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, fresh, yeasty, aromatic, floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

My first ever trip to Nantwich starts here, so by default this clear mid-brown coloured ale is my first in the Cheshire town. A malt-hop balanced locally produced ale, perhaps just a little bit more of the former in taste. Its aroma is where the brew's sweetness is to be found.

Benedict Arnold is probably the most famous Turncoat. Minimally hazed golden keg pour. Pleasant fruit-hopped brew at about equal measure, nothing difficult about the texture. This is sessionable.

500ml bottle from That Beer Place, Chester. Gluten Free. Bright golden colour, white foamy head and aroma of fruit, citrus, hops. Taste is malty, grain, woody, tangy with citrus, and earthy spicy hops. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Cask at City Tavern, Chester (not yet listed in Brewver). Another beer I’d drunk before and didn’t realise I hadn’t rated. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – basically hints of hops and malts. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with also a little bitterness alongside. Flavour is mainly malts with traces of autumn fruits and traditional hops. Hints of lactose and caramel come later. This is reasonable – but not exciting.
