We visited here with Nick, Anna, Charlie, Sarah, Ryan and Honey Sunday 25th January 2026. We started with a brewery tour which was fine but in truth I’ve had a lot better, still we got a few small tasters and it gave us the perfect excuse to go to the pub/brewery on a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon in Berlin.
BRLO is a modern set up, in fact it is very cool as it appears to be mostly constructed from large shipping containers and yet it is a sizeable venue, I like it. We came and departed from random places, so not really sure of the best option for public transport from Berlin Hbf, I would have assumed the station right outside the brewery but apparently not. It was a Sunday afternoon and so as it expected it was really popular with families, food was also in hot demand and whilst the choice was limited, it was basically fried chicken, chips etc it was nonetheless very popular.
Beer choice was large, all their own as I recall with a few collabs and also some bottles that might not have been listed , there was a large display above the bar. Beers were very good, nothing blew me away but I do think that BRLO are a solid brewery.
We liked this set up, they are doing a good job of catering to all and it’d be a nice place to come in the summer as there appeared to be lots of outdoor seating.

We visited here with Nick, Anna, Charlie, Sarah, Ryan and Honey Friday 23rd January 2026. We met the guys here as it was only 7-8 mins walk from our hotel and we also ate here. However for those travelling from Berlin Hbf for example then this is only two stops on the S5 to Hackescher Markt and a 8-10 mins walk, there are likely many more public transport options as it is in Mitte and quite well connected, I just added the first that I saw on Google.
From the outside this is a flat iron, so it opens up the further you venture in. However we sat near the entrance, the pointy end. Once we’d all met up we ordered food, which was mostly from a very traditional German menu (also English menu option) prices were good and food decent. The beer choice isn’t that big, in fact I cannot even recall what I had as we were too involved in conversation catching up with our good friends.
I liked this place, okay it won’t be for everyone but it suited our needs perfectly. It’s got a very cosy old skool feel, staff were friendly and service was quick, and for these sort of meet ups it’s a perfect venue, btw I booked the table online via their website beforehand, super easy and worked a treat as we were a big group. I would imagine this has a loyal local following and deservedly so, apologies for forgetting the beer choices, suffice to say the beer was in very good nick and we had a most pleasant evening.

We visited here Saturday 24th January 2026 in the company of Nick, Anna, Charlie, Sarah, Ryan and Honey. This isn’t a very big place, all of the seating wraps around the large central bar, personally I think that the actual bar seems to take up a disproportionate amount of space leaving only room for high stools and seating against the wall on the one side. The beer list is on the opposite wall and is very clearly laid out, though if you are short sighted like me then folk sat underneath are probably thinking why is he gawping at us again. Btw Kotbusser Tor is the nearest U-Bahn stop, it is only a short walk around the corner from here.
Beer choice was great, prices not so, in fact it seemed as though I had walked into a bar in Oslo or another expensive Scandinavian city, however I fully accept that to obtain some of these rare whales can cost a venue an absolute arm and leg. We stayed for a couple of beers, the beers were in excellent nick and the one person on shift clearly knew his stuff and was a very good barman, his English was also good.
We left here to head to The Muted Horn which wasn’t so far by public transport, take the U8 U-Bahn and short walk, 15-20 mins in total probably. I am glad we came here as I suspect some of the beers will only be found here but The Muted Horn offers much more.

We visited Friday 13th February 2026 in the company of Marko. This is a wellness hotel, not sure that I’ve never been to one of these before, but it appears to be aimed at those who probably have a few bob and like to flounce about with dressing gowns on meandering between sauna, pool, sun loungers and bar/cafe. First things first, I don’t think that this would be an easy place to get to with public transport, it’s in the arse end of nowhere, close to the Czech and Austrian borders but where these three countries meet is actually just a trig point up a mountain, we snowshoed to the exact point last year, so not a proper border crossing, but very cool nonetheless to take a couple of steps an be in Austria, Germany or Czechia. Btw just checked and whilst Google isn’t the best for checking public transport in the Bayerisch Wald, trust me I know these things, regardless there appeared to be no options to get here from Waldkirchen, Passau or Freyung, so as I thought it really is a place where you require your own transport.
Once here as Marko points out, the layout is far from obvious, I suspect that it has been a place that has been added to over the years, regardless better signage would be helpful. If you come during the day then it would seem that your options to try the beer are limited to just one or two of their bottles to takeaway from the fridge, from a small shop area near the reception. However having tried their beers later in the day, unless you really are super keen to pick up a new rate, I would give this place a swerve, the beers were not good. In the fridge was a Pils and Hell, there was a Schwarzbier on tap but as the cafe/bar area wasn’t open we were unable to sample this.
Interestingly there was a reasonably decent selection of other beers, Camba in particular was well represented. We picked up two versions of an Austrian eisbock however they were both around the 20 euros mark, though tbf 75cl bottles. Some of the other bottles were also pricey but then amongst were the odd Belgian beer that was reasonably priced.
This is not the sort of place that I would rush back to, it’s expensive, their own beers are not very good and it is not aimed at someone like me, but it is in a nice area and if you were hiking or cycling or staying nearby (there is a campsite close to the Austrian border) then maybe you could drop by and check it out.

Bottle picked up from Drankgigant.nl, webshop, Vlissingen, Netherlands and consumed at home Saturday 21st February 2026 watching the Men's Curling Final GB v Canada, after a great Chicken Tikka Masala from The Curry Guy book. Pours pitch black, the head rapidly departed, thickness in the mouth, tangy, a little bit dark fruity, barrel ageing is clearly noted, a little stickiness, good. Score 7.8

Can courtesy of Marko, cheers mate!. Had this Friday 20th February 2026 listening to Huw Stephens on 6Music. We've made Spicy Nduja Cannelloni but we didn't have Nduja left so used Harrisa also couldn't be bothered to make Cannelloni so did Lasagna instead. Good beer, not amazing but solid West Coast vibes, a touch thin, lacks a bit of body, nice bitterness , a background sweetness, just a touch thin, nice buzz on the tongue, light fruity. Score 7.1

Bottle picked up from a local Getrankemarkt and consumed at home Tuesday 17th February 2026 listening to FM4 and cooking Spinokopita and also Greek Potatoes, it's been a day of snow, snow and more snow. Pours warm gold edging towards amber with a large frothy white head, some grainy notes, wheatiness and yeah that's about it for the nose. Refreshing but not really offering up much, that said it's inoffensive and I had two of these sat chatting with Patrick on a Monday afternoon. Score 6.0

Bottle picked up from a Getrankemarkt nr Ulm and consumed at home Tuesday 17th February 2026 listening to FM4 and cooking Spinokopita and also Greek Potatoes, it's been a day of snow, snow and more snow. Lively pour but after losing a mouthful or two this pours clear gold with a large white head. Fruity tang but there's a very light sweet and wheatiness coming through. Don't normally go for Kristal Weizens but this is ok. Score 6.6

Can courtesy of Marko, cheers Marko! Had this after a nice weekend with Jonas, Ursula and Marko, Sunday 15th February 2026. Pours hazy yellow with a large frothy white head, lovely mouthfeel, a touch aggressive but I actually quite like that, actually when I say aggressive I think that assertive would be a better word. For a DIPA at 8.8%, yes the can states 8.8% and not 8.0%, anyway as I was saying it's not flabby, overly sweet or too malty, it has bite, it's bitterness is lengthy and it's even a little dry towards the end, fruity it suggests kumquat not sure about that as I've not had it enough but could be. Super nice. Score 7.6
