Tap. Nitro pour. The Bear. Kernel MTB. Another one I thought I must have ticked. Darkest brown. Inevitably a good dense swede. Nutty and lightly sugared coffee character. Some gentle sweetness but mostly it’s pretty bitter. Smooth and easy drinking with good depth of flavour. Nice. Surprised Evin allows a nitro pour tbh, but if that’s what sells that’s it innit.

Tap. The Bear. Kernel MTB. Now we’re talking. Hazy pale gold. Kernel swede. Good malt backdrop and juicy pithy lightly piny hop. Decent depth of flavour. Bitterness my dang. Good gear.

Tap. The Bear. Kernel MTB. Hazed pale orange gold. Decent swede. Fruity Um Bongo vibes. Drinks easy. Light on the bitterness and light on body. Which seems a recurring thing with Kernel to me, lately. Ok. Smells good.

Tap. The Bear. Keep MTB. One of those you think you must have had. Light haze on a lemon gold. Decent swede. All the witbier with a faint smokiness. Easy drinking.

Cask. The Bear. Kernel MTB. Light haze on a pale gold. Dense thin white swede. Light malts and light fruity Citra. Thin and a bit dry. Seems to lack body.

Can. The Bear, Sheffield. I mean I really should know better by now. Milky yellow. Suds of white. Astringent green hop and milky oaty malt. Taste is milky sweet first off with an astringent bitterness. Feels like trub on the palate. Too fizzy. Bitter finish. Grim.

Tap. Abbeydale Beerworks. Opaque deep coffee dreg brown. Slim dense glossy beige foam. Huge Islay character here. Peat. Phenols. Smoke. Iodine. In fact it just smells of Islay whisky. No real beery notes at all. Taste is vinous and light tart. Some inevitable woody bitterness. Decent body. Definitely doesn’t lack flavour. Vinous phenolic peaty finish. Doesn’t lack in barrel character but Islay isn’t a favourite for me so rated as I find it.

Cask. Abbeydale Beerworks. Light haze on a medium gold. Dense creamy white foam. Looks good. Nose has light piny notes. Some lemon rind. Light dry malt. Taste is light bitter. Some sweetness. Drinks well and is in great nick (as it should be in the brewery tap). Clean bitter finish. Nice golde.
