Description
One of the most traditional Bavarian breweries - HERRNBRÄU - is located in Ingolstadt - the city in which Duke Wilhelm IV's world-famous “Bavarian Purity Law” was announced in 1516. For over 130 years we have stood for old Bavarian brewing art and beer specialties of the finest quality. Beer and wheat beer lovers far beyond the borders of Ingolstadt and Bavaria also know and appreciate our traditional recipes and products brewed only with the best ingredients.

(bottle, 6.0% abv) Clear, golden colour with a blond and stable foamy head. Mildly bready and delicately grainy and sugary malty aroma with shades of caramel, sulfur and traces of flowery and herbal hops. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a medium carbonation. Solid malt character with notes of biscuits and dough; moderately sweet and cautious bitter hoppy finish. No glory. 21.I.17

(bottle) Hazy, murky brown colour with a beige and tall, also quite persistent foamy head. Yeasty, dark malty and pronounced sourish wheaty aroma with fruity notes of dark berries, banana, hints of candied fruits and a bearable amount of clove phenols. Moderately sweet and delicately sour flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Fruit-accented taste with notes of banana and dark berries, accompanied by mildly toasted malt and wheaty flavours; mildly sweet and delicately bitter-tart finish with fruity and toasty notes, some caramel bitterness and a fairly muted alcoholic strength. Good, just a tad slim at the very end. 26.XII.16

Pours a brown color. Malty, straw-cereal, molasses aroma. The body was flabby and not crisp, medium weight. Easy to drink, but not entertaining.

500ml bottle at home on 13th Dec 2016: BBD of bottle 12th Oct 17, bought from Beers of Europe. Dark golden pour, white topping. Part of a mini Bavarian Fest/Winter bier tasting with my son. This beer was the best of the seven we shared in my opinion: my sweet tooth taking to the semi-sweet caramel aromas and taste. It’s colour stood it apart and it’s depth of flavour, sweetness and character made it different to the other five (one was a weissbier) in the same style: they all appeared very ’samey’ in looks and taste.

Can from an Egerer Advent pack from the Woodland CostCo. Pours gold with a white head. Bready/yeasty aroma. Near med body. Flavor is bready with a light touch of spicy hop. Could be a bit of grass. It’s not particularly sweet, so the minimal hop (IMO) provides a decent bitterness. Certainly drinkable.

Can from an Egerer Advent pack from the Woodland CostCo. Pours dark copper with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of rich slightly roasty, slightly sweet caramel. Near med body. Flavor matches aroma. Not dry, but not overly sweet; mildly bitter, very mildly. It’s a good beer.
