dark brown with mahogany highlights, nice thick head, lots of lacing... ...a bit stinky in the initial smell, kinda rotten almost... but it went away... ...coffee, chocolate, and a hint of orange in the flavor... yum. REALLY GOOD mouthfeel, one of the better ones!! A bit too sweet (and bitter) to drink all the time. But a nice effort!

Nice amber color... I do like the way beers this shade of amber look... Not much of a smell... oh well. Nice smooth, floral taste, but not great. After seeing how many people really like this one, I felt disappointed. Itโs drinkable... but really, there are better beers out there.

Thanks Rate Beer! I would have tried this ages ago, but I avoided it thinking it was some spiced up winter beer. Then I found Rate Beer and it said it was an IPA! And a very nice IPA too! This has a beautiful hazy amber color that supports a fine thick head. The aroma an flavor are well balanced providing hops and malt in abundance. Smooth with a lingering finish. I'll have another one.

It is easy to see why this is a benchmark beer. It's high quality, assertiveness, and ready availability have made it the beer that is "American Pale Ale". It's simplicity is classic, yet refined. A beer that is good to come back to from time to time with never any regrets.

2009 vintage, 3 years old: Muddy dull amber. The aroma is bright and hoppy, with orchard fruit accents. The hops are bright on the palate, but with lots of chewiness and bitterness as well. I donโt know if it has improved, but this bottle has held up quite nicely under adverse conditions. Enjoyable stuff.
Old rating: I have to say Iโm surprised I never bothered to rate this on Ratebeer before now. Iโve certainly had it enough times. Cloudy dark amber with a thick, rocky head. Rich hoppy aroma - wood, orange - with abundant caramel. Drips with rich, tangy hops, and has a sticky maltiness from that caramel malt (too much of it, really). These elements duke it out for control of my palate. Sometimes one wins, sometimes the other but itโs always an intense and pleasurable experience.

Draught, 2006-12-16, 7-4-8-5-16=40
Beautiful hazy light amber color. The aroma is hoppy, a bit fruity and flowery. The taste is malty enough, with a powerful and aromatic hopping, a lot of hop oils, some resins and little fruitness. Good.
Bottle, vintage 2002, 1 year old, 2003-11-15, 9-4-7-5-15=40
Light amber color. Wonderful hoppy/Cascade aroma; fruity, apricots. Dry, ordinary mouthfeel, less interesting than suspected. Of course, very strong and long final.

Great hop flavor to this brew. Kind of a amber pour with a head that lasts for a few seconds. Clean taste at first and then you get the hops on the back of the tounge. Excellent brew for the novice to the pro.

Rating #800:
Amber in colour with a dense tan head. Aroma perfectly balanced between hops and malt, favouring a perfumey hop character. Medium-bodied; Definate hop flavour balanced by malt and caramel. Aftertaste clean despite all the hops. Overasll, a good beer, but not the best APA i've ever had! I had this on draught at Sinรฉ in Arlington, Virginia on 23-November-2003.

Hazy blond bear with quickly dissapperaing head. Light malt aroma. Light malt in mouth with little hops, lemon tartness comes more in aftertaste, especially with a cheese. Not bad.
