Description
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.

The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.

In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

An amber sligthly hazy beer with a good head, though it disappears quite quick. It has a very nice fruity bitter-sweet aroma, do I detect a little orange? The flavor is a nice bitterness right from the start, no sweetness at all. It is a nice bitterness more like an English IPA than an American - different hop. The bitterness lingers a long time and turns almost woody at last. A very nice beer, that I definately will try again.

Pine aroma. Stinging, reisiny flavour. Sweet and unbalanced finish. Just because it tastes "different" doesn''t mean that it is good!

This is a very light and drinkable ale, with an inviting, floral aroma, and a wheaty, slightly malty flavor that contains just a hint of flowers (which I am assuming is the "heather" aspect to this beer). I''ll buy this beer again, but probably for light, summer drinking.

Light amber; dried flowers in the aroma; bland, watery, touch of grass. OK, I use that description on swill lagers and this is better than that, but it is not that much better. If I didn''t know any better I''d say they were competing with Keith''s.

Bottled. Near black. Neutral aroma. Roasty and medium bodied. Lightly chocolatey and well balanced. Like in the other seaweed beer I''ve try it is very hard to actually get hold of the seaweed flavour.

Small fading head above a cloudy dark amber beer. Strong caramel candy aroma with a hint of chocolate. Strong and tich candy notes. Nutty? A hint of grape jolly rancher. Light spiciness in the finish. A little cloying over time. Warming strong alcohol finish. I don't find any pine or spruce notes.

Very dark garnet-brown, with a full huge head. Strong candyish aroma. Somewhat mild smoky and chocolatey flavors. Clean earthy finish with a hint of roastiness. I don't detect what the seaweed adds to this beer.

Very much despite it's name pale yellow, and slightly hazy. Some hay aroma. Clean and sweet, light bodied with low bitterness. Unremarkable not not at all unpleasant.
