Description
The Brooklyn Brewery started with a dream to return brewing to Brooklyn, once a powerhouse of American beer production. Today our beers travel to more than half the United States and over thirty countries. Our James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster Garrett Oliver and his team brew everything from classic styles to bold experiments and collaborate with brewers, innovators and artists from around the globe. We’ve met wonderful people in remarkable places, and we can’t wait to show everyone what’s next.

In 2016, Brooklyn Brewery sold 24.5 percent to Kirin, Japan’s second-biggest brewer. The partnership allowed Brooklyn Brewery to use Kirin’s distribution arm to sell in Japan and Brazil.

[At GABF 2004] An unclear orange beer with a white head. The aroma is a weird orange aroma, while the flavor is sour wheaty with notes of lemon. A boring hefeweizen - rather have a German.

A hazy pale yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is wheaty combined with lots of lemon. The flavor is very fresh wheaty combined with notes of lemon adn lime, but the body is thin. Probably good on a hot summer day in the sun.

[At Københavnske Øldage 2005] What a treat in Denmark - the keg was flown in by Garret Oliver especially for Københavnske øldage. A red-brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of alcohol and caramel, leading to a dry end.

Bottle Citrus and ginger aromanotes on spongy malt. Deep golden, low creamy head, low on visible carbonation. Citric and slightly herbal hop notes - an american hop profile with german hops. Doughy malt, aftertaste slightly dusty. Feels fat on the lounge but is too light towards the back. Somewhere along the way the elegant simplicity of the pilsner got lost.

[At Københavnske Øldage 2005, served by Garret Oliver] A red-brown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of yeast. The flavor is sweet malty and nicely spicy, leading to a dry spicy end. An OK beer, but not as good as most Belgian Dubbels.

[At Københavnske Øldage 2005, served by Garret Oliver] An unclear orange beer with a small orange head. The aroma is sweet wheaty combined with notes of oranges. The flavor is sweet wheaty, leading to a dry wheaty end. This beer is thin for a Weizen bock - I can’t find the alcohol and neither the complexity I was hoping for - too simple.

2004 Bottle drank in 2005: Poured a clear amber looking ale with a small off-white foamy head with not much retention. Aroma of light roasted malt with sweet floral notes is noticeable. The malt dominates taste with some sweetness and some very subtle bitterness at the end. Body is way too thin for a Barleywine and watery feeling in the aftertaste disappoint me greatly. Alcohol is well hidden and carbonation is low. The thin body and the watery makes this a greatly disappointing experience.

I have encountered this beer a couple of times and have been moderately impressed by it each time. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours thick, black and oily with a small dark brown head. The aroma is bitter hops. The flavor is roasted malts followed by a sharp hop bite and with light chocolate and coffee undertones. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and creamy.
