500ml bottle picked up at Fenaknoken and enjoyed at a hotel room in Oslo. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Slightly unclear golden body. Missing head. Dry malty aroma with hints of yeast. Unusual and interesting taste; a peaty character with grain, figs and dried fruits offset by notes of citric hops. Nice bitter ending. Rounded, dry texture (Open, light, and happy) (15.05.2007).

Head is just a thin white ring. Hazy orange body. Sweetish lightly roasted aroma with notes of peas and hops. Taste is acidic roasty malts with a strong grassy hop profile. A bit thin and watery mouthfeel, partly because of the low carbonation. Aftertaste just kind of fades. A very good beer, even it’s not very bock-like. (0.5l bottle.)

Thin white film passes for a head. Hazy yellow body with carbonation. Yeasty pea-like aroma with citric earth notes. Taste is deep, powerful light malts dominated by earthy pea-like hops with citric spicy notes. Excellent balance. Dry earthy aftertaste with an almost powdery texture. Very unusual, but a really nice beer, whatever style it’s meant to be. (0.5l bottle.)

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Brewed for the 150th Anniversary/Jubilee of Steinkjer town. Unfiltered and unpasteurised, bottle conditioned. ABV is 4.7%. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, moderate white head. This beer is not "something completely different" to the degree of the "ordinary" Ølve på Egge (the latter is a presumed "Norse homebrew style" beer). This one is more like a British blonde ale, but notes of juniper branches in the moderate aroma and somewhat more distinct flavour still reminds you of its Norse heritage. Faint hints of smoke, tar and woodwork too. Light bodied, moderate hops in the finish. Worth a try.

Small beige coarse-laced head over hazy dark red-brown barely translucent body. Yeasty aroma of boiled peas with notes of roastiness and cappucino. Very unusual. Taste is soft roastiness with hoppy pea-like notes and some yeast. Aftertaste is grassy hops and soft burntness. Unidentifiable spicy taste at the back, probably the juniper. Faint chocolate notes also detectable. Mouthfeel is silky. Very nice. I’ve no idea what beer type this is supposed to be (traditional Norwegian, what’s that?), but the beer is excellent. (0.5l bottle.)
