Cask at the Starving Rascal, Amblecote. Pours dark red brown with a small head. Aroma is blackberry and liquorice. Taste has blackberry to start with a liquorice and cough sweet finish.

Sun Inn Kelvedon, Autumn Beer Fest, Cask. Clear deep red - amber beer, patchy pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, some bitterish toffee. Unwelcome trace of sulphur. Ripe fruits, especially orange. Dry floralness getting bitter. Light semi dry finish. A bit awkward overall.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading. A pale amber colour with a loose white head; grainy aroma; sweet in the mouth with a grainy body; then a dry bready finish. Rather bland and boring.

Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. An attractive chestnut colour with a loose cream head; earthy/nutty aroma; thin in the mouth with a caramel malt body and an earthy bitterness; then a watery malty finish. A rather disappointing autumn bitter.

Cask pint in The Compasses, Ketley, Shropshire on 29th Oct 2016. Golden pour, thin but lasting white head. Another citrus leaning golden beer: it’s fine, but I am fed up with this sort of beer. Scored objectively.

Cask at the moon under water Watford Jdw. A clear golden coloured pour with a lasting white frorh. Aroma is semi sweet Base malts, dried apple, brambles, berry hop. Flavour is composed of light biscuity malts, thin, mineral, apple, spicy hop, some hot alcohol. Palate is semi sweet moderate cask condition, little chalky in the finish.

Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen (cheers you two!) consumed at home Tuesday 24th May 2016 at home whilst cooking Lush Chicken, Lemon and Pepper Light clear warm gold with a filmy white head.Tiny bit of boiled sweet going on (pasteurised?) but otherwise it’s not so bad, fruity with a light bitterness, it’s fine. Cask handpull from the Queen Edith, Cambridge. Mid-gold, not quite clear. Reasonable amount of foamy white head and lacing. Malt and citrus dominate the aroma but further sneaky sniffing will reveal some tropical fruit. Exceedingly sweet taste - almost like pear drops - but none the worse for it. It finishes more bitter, with less balance, and there’s a touch of diacetyl right at the end. Shame, because it is pretty good all around.
