Brewed in an old nuclear bunker at Pednavounder on the Lizard Peninsula, Britain’s most southerly point, Lizard Ales have been producing a variety of real ales since 2004 – using only high quality ingredients and traditional methods, the beers from Lizard Ales capture the true flavour of Cornwall.
Lizard Ales is a “five barrel ” plant producing up to 180 gallons per brew – simple ingrdients – water, malt, hops, yeast and salt – The water is local and untreated save for the addition of a little table salt to give extra body – malted barley comes from Warminster Maltings of Wiltshire who malt Lizard Ale’s mainly Cornish barley – the hops are all grown in Kent or Worcestershire the yeasts are built up from fresh batches sourced from St Austell Brewery.

Taste - Highland toffee, prunes more so this time. Honey and raisins. Palate - medium bodied at least. Sweet nmiddle with just enough malt bitterness on the finish to just about make it drinkable. Bottle from Asda, Newquay on 19th May 2018. Cloudy amber with thin off-white foam decaying to little more than anon-lacing ring. Citric aroma with deeply pungent yeasts. Smoky, citric hoppiness in-mouth with deeply earthy pungency. A citrus, smoked finish. Full f with a zingy mouthfeel. Unusual and enjoyable.

500ml bottle. Pours lightly hazed deep golden with a minimal white head. Aroma: not great, perhaps some light citrus. Taste: dry with moderate bitterness, lemon, some caramel, soapy. Light bodied, minimal carb, dry bitter finish. This neither looks great or tastes great, hope it’s better on cask!
