Bottle at Jack & Leighton’s birthday celebration, thanks to Colin. It pours deep red-brown with a small beige head. The nose is wood, varnish, pine, sweet toffee, honey and spice. The taste is wood, varnish, leather, alcohol, earth, rye bread and some bitterness with a very dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not much to it really. Not enough body and a bit too alcoholic, but ok.

Bottle at the ChrisO Snow Tasting, London - thanks to Colin! Pours clear, red-brown with a light, off-white cream head. Mellow aroma, some semi-dark malts. Light to medium sweet flavor with toasted dry malts, moderate leafy bitterness, earth. Medium bodied with very high carbonation. Sweetish finish, some semi-dark bread. Not much pumpkin, not much spruce. Fairly bland, actually, and certainly not extreme.

22 oz. bottle from Ryan and Casey’s Liquors for $6.35. Smoked malt nose. Some light dark fruit.Dark brown color with particles of yeast on a slow pour. Tasted is a really funky and loaded with smoked. The smoked peat over powers everything else in this beer. This really should be listed as a smoked beer. Like drinking campfire ashes. I had a hard time drinking 12 oz. of this stuff.

It pours a deep dark brown and has a nice one inch speckled off white half inch head in my nonic. Foamy speckled lacing graces the sides of the glass. The smell has the smoky chocolate up front coming through in an ashy/coffee sort of way, reminds me like I’m smelling the charcoal from a grill. The taste is smoky and full of coffee bitterness, slightly woody and ashy again. That \"meatiness\" from rauchbiers comes out in the taste. The palate is medium and crisp with a dark bitter aftertaste and finish. There is nothing harsh on the tongue. This is pretty sessionable. Overall, this is decent for the style, but honestly I’m not fond of it.

22oz bottle pours a clear orange with some frothy, lacing, white head. Soapy nose, fairly pungent hops, grapefruit zest, lemon zest, pine needles. Flavor is malty, some honey, some agave syrup, then loads of sticky hops, pine, lemon, grapefruit, orange candied. Full, sticky finish. A bit sloppy, but pretty good overall.

Out of the bomber and into my snifter, it poured a beautiful hazy orange and left the same color body. A half centimeter white foamy head concaves gently into the body. The smell had rich fruity notes up front with hops backing it up very strong. Malts were more subdued. The taste was pretty much the same. The palate was about a medium with some slight sharpness on the tongue. At 8% for the ABV, the alcohol was fairly hidden well which lead to fairly sessionable beer. Overall, this would be a hop forward double IPA, I liked it more the second time I had it.
