Copper color with tiny bubbles and a fluffy off-white head. Strong citrus hop aroma over a firm roasted malt. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Strong roasted malt flavor with citrus and pine hop. Seems slightly ashy. At 90 IBU it’s bitter, but it isn’t very harsh. Just totally dominates the mouth. Clean, hoppy finish.

A lightley murkey brown ale with a thin light moka head. Nice hoppy aroma, lightly floral, caramel and treacle. In mouth, a nice caramelly IPA with good hopping, a bit of grapefruit, nice vinous notes, light licorice. Rich and interesting. Bottle at American Flatbread, Post Vermont Brewfest Dinner, July 19 2008 with TaktikMtl and Goldorak.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a foamy, off-white head with very good lacing, and a deep brown body. Aroma has a nice hop (spicey and citrus) presence, tons of toffee and caramel as well. There is also a deceent amount of alcohol that nicely rounds out the finish. Taste is roasty and nutty up front with a bit of coffee, and hops with a alcohol backbonee finishing it up. Kind of thin for a 10% barely wine. Warming with light carbonation.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a largish, foamy off-white head. Hazy amber body with a few black yeasties at the bottom. Good lacing. Aroma of booze, and dark fruits, caramel and apple brandy, slightly metallic with a bit of bread. Smells a bit like 2005 Fuller’s Vintage. Taste is dry, then a bit bitter, finishing metallicy. Some alcohol present too, a little bit of crisp apple halfway through. Kind of tastes monochromatic. Lively mouthfeel, but on the dryish side which feels odd for a warming beer of 8%.

Bottle from Sun Devil in Mesa, AZ ($4.99; lucky New Englanders). Amber color with a three-finger beige head. Aroma of sweet grapefruit. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor starts malty sweet with grapefruit, moves to pine, moves to grapefruit rind - always balanced with a malt backing. Tingles my mouth.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of sweet with loads of overcooked vegetables. Taste is also dominated by some overcooked vegetables with some oversweet malt. Body is really thin with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I thought there was way too many brewing flaws in this beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of caramel malt with some very subtle notes of jasmine and some floral hops. Taste is also dominated by some medium full caramel malt with some very subtle jasmine and some floral and lightly bitter hops. I would have expected more dominant jasmine notes but still very enjoyable and easily quaffable.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma was totally dominated by ginger which is not an ingredient often found in tripel but it was still enjoyable. Taste was also dominated by loads of ginger with some coriander and a sweet Belgian style malt profile. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol was detectable. Definitely not close too the style but nonetheless very enjoyable.

Courtesy of Gillard. Pours gold with copper core and white head. The aroma is sweet grapefruit and orange with some malts in the back. I don’t get much else. The taste is nearing sticky malts and moves toward pine hop bitterness. I get faint grapefruit hops and near midway mildly roasted malts and malt sweetness. Certainly a nice load of bitter hops up front running into malt to the finish.

Rated July 2008. Courtesy of gillard (thanks Ryan). Pour slightly hazy amber with thin tan head. The aroma is dark fruity esters with some crystal malty sweetness. I also get some mild hotness too. It tastes nice and rich with a lean toward sessionable. I'm getting some malt chewy sweetness leading the way toward dark fruity esters like plums, cherries and grapes. The pine hop bitterness mixes nicely with the other notes.
