(Gravicask at Old Fountain, Old Street, London, 20 May 2010) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of black coffee and dark chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, tobacco, dark chocolate and a certain coffee bitterness in a dry finish. Slightly above medium body, fairly dry (despite the rather high alcohol level). Well made and tasty, highly drinkable for its strength.

Bottle from Kris Wines, London. Shared with Slothez. Darkish amber pour with minimal head. Aroma didn’t offer a great deal, no real pungent resinous hoppage as you might hope to find in a stateside ipa, just some vague fruity notes, all slightly muted. The hops come through a bit more in the flavour with some citrus notes, but it never quite gets off the ground. Finish was dryish and gently lingering. Quite enjoyable in its own right, and certainly drinkable, but not too similar to the hop laden US IPAs that this is supposed to replicate.

[Gravity cask at Reading BF] Amber-gold, slight fizz. Tastes of fresh oranges, with slight pine notes, something tropical and a bit of earth in the finish. Nice and light and refreshing. It’s a pleasant enough little beer, but much thinner and lighter and less bitter than I expected.

Cask. Clear dark orangey brown with a beige, lacing head. Roasted, nutty aroma. Medium body, low in carbonation, nuts and burned caramel, wood and dried fruit - but also an odd chemical tang that really detracts. Rather hoppy finish. 160110

Cask-condtioned at the Old Fountain, London 13/10/09. Deep gold with a slight white head. Hoppy, citrus and organe blossom aroma blanaced by a touch of caramel. Flavour had more fruity malts, ctirus hopping and a hint of pine resin, before a lingering, prickly dry finish. Excellent.
