Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Oren. Dark brown to black-colored. Aroma with some hops and roastiness. Flavor has light sweetness with malt, some roastiness and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Decent.

LCBO ($4ish): Pours a reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is of maple syrup and some malts. Taste is quite simply maple at the front and pretzels at the back. Did I say pretzels? Yes, yes I did. I kind of like pretzels with beer and I also like beer that tastes like soft pretzels. So, although this might be too sweet, it is still quite alright.

Canada: So, I had this right after I consumed a Black Creek Stout, and this was a whole lot better. Hence, it strikes me strange that this beer is rated so much lower. In any case, is pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is ligthly smoky with roasted malts. Taste is pretty generic and inoffensive. Easy to drink, although it is more or less forgetable.

Originally rated June 2005. Pours a slightly unclear brown-amber with a fizzy head and some lace. Strong aromas... maybe hop. Seems pass the best before date taste-wise... even if I cannot find any. Horrible sour taste at first (found in outdated brews). Then, just plain flat. Nothing. No punch. As all the Trafalgar products I tried as of yet, none have impress me. Keep on trying.

Originally rated June 2005. I still have to find a Trafalgar brew that I like. This one starts badly, as it seems to be outdated. It pours an amber-red colour with a bubbly tanned head. Foamy lacing is not too bad. Slight caramel malt aroma. The taste is that sour outdated mouth... that I hate so much with brews that just don’t sell. The rest of the real taste is the regular Trafalgar ale taste. Nothing special, very boring actually. Can’t wait to finish all of their brews and never go back to them.

Sample at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. The beer is a dark reddish-brown color with a medium thin creamy light beige head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of smoky malt and chocolate. Light body with flavors of sweet chocolate, peat and maybe some stale coffee. The finish is short with a semi-sweet smoked chocolate aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Originally rated August 2005. Sweet grain malt aroma mixed with 2 day old wet socks. Kind of bready or on the biscuit side. Pale golden in colour. Not much head, nor lace. No carbonation. Flat mouthfeel. The mouth is kind of sweet with some bitterness. Trafalgar’s best tasting beer... so far. Still looking for a good brew from them.

Okay brown body without too much density and not enough head. Very soft mud and barley aroma. Flavour is barley trending towards chocolate with a watery finish. This needs some work - I’ve had much better stouts. Sampled at 16c

Well then! Shipped up from down south, well damn these beers ain’t cheap.. but nonetheless I give ’em a try, tryin’ to see if they’’re worth the effort to ship up by air to the high (yeah, high) arctic. Poured at 6.6c, this one has very little head and a brown-copper body. The aroma is faint malts. Flavour is a forgettable bunch of malt and barley, smooth but not complex at all. Drinkable for sure, but a little too easy. It needs more.

Shipped up to the arctic via LCBO... hey, the selection ain’t great, but if you saw the selection in Nunavut this would certainly qualify as exotic! Poured at 10.5 celcius it has a brown copper-black body and a very small head. The aroma is mahogany, murky, lots of barley in there. The flavour is a dark mix of roasted barley, coffee, with a sharp hoppy finish. Unique, but not amazing, but not awful, and worth a try if you find it.
