Description
General guidance to members adding beers:-
Kernel beers are largely added as 'series' and the naming within the various series are for example ... 'Pale Ale - Hop(s)'. Capital letter on each hop, no commas.
Kernel beers are largely left unretired so don't tick the 'out of production' box unless it's a special/collaboration beer.
With all the various hop combinations it's not been unknown for a specific beer to re-appear again after an absence of 7 years.
The early beers named as 'sours' were brewed by kettle souring, as such these beers (typically 4% and below) are regarded by the brewer to be more akin to a Berliner Weisse stylistically and are therefore listed as such.
The brewery springs from the need to have more good beer. Beer deserving of a certain attention. Beer that forces you to confront and consider what you are drinking. Upfront hops, lingering bitternesses, warming alcohols, bodies of malt. Lengths and depths of flavour. We make Pale Ales, India Pale Ales and old school London Porters and Stouts towards these ends. Bottled alive, to give them time to grow.

Bottle. Waitrose. Hazed pale gold. Top tier Kernel swede. Looks boss. Nose has lean dry grain with hop notes of unripe orange peel. Little bit of pine cone. Bit of bubblegum mosaic. Taste is lean dry and fairly bitter. Decent body at the 3%. Dry bitter finish. No sweetness anywhere in this one, which I suppose makes for a good table beer / aperitif / get it down the neck starter bev.

Slightly hazy golden pour with a small white head (bottle was not stored upright for a while). Aromas of white wine, (wine) yeast, malt, oak, aplle, vinegar, peach. Taste is sour as expected, with notes of (white) wine, oak, peach, apple, vinegar. Nice and smooth for a sour.

Bottle. Waitrose. Dug this one out from the back of the shelf. Hazed pale gold. Solid Kernel swede, albeit not top tier. Nose is bready biscuity and cracker like. Lemon pith hop. Slightly curious twang to it, maybe like fusty d lime. Taste is light dry and pretty bitter. Plenty of happenings at the 3%. Lean and dry bitterness to finish.

Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Black body with a thick beige head. No visible carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of cocoa and charred pineapple. Flavour of blueberry and milk chocolate. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. I don’t think Mosaic is the honest suited to this style but it’s still a very tasty and well made beer.

Tap at the brewery taproom bermondsey. A hazed reddish nut brown coloured pour with a lasting fine khaki cap. Aroma is sharp, tangy dark berries, sour cherry, pickles of vinegar, some earthy sweetness to balance.. Nose also has, woodland fruit and raisin notes. Complex. Flavour is composed of prickly sour fruit, prunes, cherry, prickly sour, woodland fruit. Some wooden barrel staves. Palate is prickly sour, sharp, pinch of salt, moderate carbonation. Complex and well balanced for the style. But the flirting with acetic really is not for me in the style.
