Description
The brewery was founded in 2005 by four home brewers who wanted to make high quality beers. In 2016 two of the original founders retired, and the brewery is today owned by a constellation of the two remaining founders, some employees at the brewery and three other Norwegian craft breweries.

Haandbryggeriet currently has 10 employees all participating in developing new ground breaking beers and recipes.

The brewery has a wide selection ranging from classic and traditional beers to new and innovative brews and hybrid beer styles. Sometimes brewed with local and Nordic ingredients such as cherries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, and lingonberries. Haandbryggeriet has since 2005 also made high quality sours and barrel aged beers such as porters and Christmas beers.

Bottled. (#6) Hazy, orange and sparkling beer with an off-white head. The aroma is fruity and spicey, with banana, coriander and some bubble-gum notes. The flavor has sweetness, banana, a light hoppiness and coriander. A really pleasant beer with a sparkling mouthfeel. Rating: 7-4-8-4-16-3.9. (060225)

Bottle. (#179) It pours an unclear orange body with a nice, creamy white head. The nose has a nice blend of fruityness and spices, with banana, some lemon, spices and a pleasant alcohol touch. Quite sparkling in the mouth, maybe a bit thinner than expected, but with a pleasant warmth from the alcohol. Easy to drink, with flavors of banana, some lightly sour citrus notes, a touch of coriander and a balancing hops. Quite sweet too. Nice bitterness towards the finish. There’s also a touch of bubble-gum all the way. Delicious. (081209)

Bottle. Yeasty aroma hiding the nice hops. Clear copper colour. Small stable white head. Quite bitter flavour, but also sweet and fruity. Aftertaste is quite yeasty. One has to be really careful pouring this, as the bottle states, because there is a thick layer of yeast at the bottom.

(Bottle 50 cl) Apparently a new and different recipe. Opaque, very dark brown with a deliciously, creamy, cappuchinoish head. Roasted and lightly burned, malty character. Good, full body with plenty of roasted malt and some sweetness. Vague burned accents that don’t leave the usual ashy bitterness. Quite neato. Thanks to Bierkönig for sharing. 160206

(Bottle 50 cl) Very dark brown, but not opaque as such. Small, creamy, beige head. Aroma of burned caramel. Flavour of roasted malt, but smooth and mellow - not sharp and burned. Very limited bitterness. Pleasant. 120804

An unclear brown beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet with main notes of chocolate, but also hints of wood. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of chocolate, but also some wood, and a slight acidity, leading to a dry finish.
Earlier Rating: 8/14/2005 Total Score: 3.3
A hazy brown beer though with a reddish hue, and with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet and dominated by caramel. The flavor is sweet with chocolate being most dominant, but also some notes of caramel.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 13 (BB August 07). Murky brown. Dense head with nice round dimples. Sweet aroma of burnt malt. Depth in flavour with medium bodied mouthfeel. Delightful mixture of malt. Dark chocolate, spicy and bittersweet in a lasting and lovely finish. Perfect combinations of sweetness and bitterness. A role model for a traditional Yule ale, and one of the very best beers for xmas in Norway last season. Nearly two months after xmas the beer is yet better. A very suitable drink to pork and other butcher’s meat.

BCA 0,5 l. Black as coal. A tan head that lasts for a couple of minutes.A faint aroma of spice. The roasty taste dominates, but there are a lot of fruity and spicy hints. A sourish bitter aftertaste with some sweetness. Lots of sediments in the bottle. KI=1
